Amber recently collaborated with Astek Home and Monadnock Paper Mills—both sustainability-minded organizations—to help her client transform a purely functional laundry room into a beautiful space she felt good about. After choosing fresh countertops, tall cabinets, and crown molding to add character to the room, she knew that a unique wallpaper would be the detail that tied the whole project together.

Wallpaper technology has advanced significantly in the last few decades, and the gamut of offerings now includes pre-pasted options for DIYers. Vinyl is still popular, but according to Amber, the shift is trending toward mindful material choices and alternative substrates that offer the same vibrant color quality and performance without all the chemicals and messy adhesives.

Deb Coduto runs plants that make paper towels. The town of Naheola, Ala., where she spends much of her time overseeing a Georgia-Pacific LLC paper-products factory, hadn’t yet felt the coronavirus when orders from retailers started rising in late February. Retailers ordered five times their normal amount of paper towels one week, and the next week 10 times more, Ms. Coduto recalls. She felt a sense of foreboding. She and the nearly 1,000 workers at the Georgia-Pacific plant, which makes Sparkle paper towels and was already running 24/7, began hunting for ways to increase output. With tactics such as cutting varieties to reduce line changeover time, they eventually managed to raise its production about 25%, still not enough to meet all the orders. Ms. Coduto was often at the plant from 5 a.m. to late evening.

Norske Skog announces sale of the Tasman mill industrial site

Norske Skog has completed a transaction for the sale of the Tasman mill industrial site and remaining mill assets to the Australasian pulp, paper, and packaging group Oji Fibre Solutions for approximately NOK 70 million (NZD 10.9 million). The sale of the mill site and realisation of certain other related assets, including buildings, electricity equipment, piping, water, and other infrastructure, will generate a total financial gain on sale of approximately NOK 57 million (NZD 8.8 million). “We are pleased to finally have concluded this sales agreement with Oji after lengthy process of negotiations and obtaining all required regulatory approvals for the sale. The sale of the Tasman industrial site to Oji is a material steps towards concluding Norske Skog’s long-term business commitment in New Zealand,” commented Geir Drangsland, President and CEO of Norske Skog.

Resolute Sets Target to Reduce GHG Emissions by 30%

Resolute Forest Products Inc. announced its commitment to reduce absolute greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions (scope 1 and 2) by 30% against 2015 levels by 2025. This new target builds on the company's 83% reduction in absolute GHG emissions from year-2000 levels, two-thirds of which reflect reductions in emission intensity. By achieving its target, the company will have reduced its emissions by nearly 700,000 metric tons of CO2 equivalents per year compared to its 2015 level. Some of the more recent projects on which the company is relying to achieve its commitment include: *an efficiency enhancement at the Saint-Félicien (Quebec) pulp mill to improve production capacity and reduce fossil-fuel use by up to 20%; *a modernization of the cogeneration turbine at the Coosa Pines (Alabama) pulp mill to reduce purchased electricity use by 6%; and *the installation of a sophisticated heat recovery unit at the Thunder Bay (Ontario) pulp and paper mill to recover waste heat and, as a result, decrease the use of fossil fuels by over 20%.
