Wiley and Vanderbilt University’s Heard Libraries Sign Agreement to Publish More Open Access Research

Wiley, one of the world’s largest publishers and a global leader in research and learning, today announced a new 5-year open access agreement with the Jean and Alexander Heard Libraries at Vanderbilt University, beginning on January 1, 2024.

This transformative agreement will provide Vanderbilt University affiliates with access to Wiley’s complete journal portfolio and enable participating researchers to publish research in Wiley’s complete portfolio of nearly 2,000 hybrid and gold open access journals, including those published by Hindawi, starting January 1, 2024.

AAP April 2020 StatShot: Publishing Industry Declines 3.5% for Month, Flat Year-to-Date

The Association of American Publishers (AAP) today released its StatShot report for April 2020 reflecting reported revenue for all tracked categories, including Trade (consumer publications), K-12 Instructional Materials, Higher Education Course Materials, Professional Publishing, and University Presses. Total sales across all categories for April 2020 declined 3.5% as compared to April 2019, reaching $783.9 million. Year-to-date sales were flat with an increase of 0.7%, totaling $3.4 billion for the first four months of 2020. Trade sales were down 6.6% as compared to April of 2019, coming in at $548.8 million. Year-to-date Trade sales were flat at +0.5%, totaling $2.2 billion for the first four months of the year.

FCC Won’t Delay Vote To Repeal Net Neutrality

Rejecting requests by lawmakers and advocates, the Federal Communications Commission says it will proceed with next week's scheduled vote on whether to repeal the net neutrality rules. On Monday, the City of New York and 40 advocacy groups urged the FCC to hold off on a vote until after a federal appellate court decides whether a different agency -- the Federal Trade Commission -- has authority to bring consumer protection cases against broadband providers. Also on Monday, a group of 28 U.S. senators, along with New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman and FCC Commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel, urged publicly urged the FCC to hold off on a vote due to problems with the public commenting process. "While I fundamentally disagree with the merits of the FCC’s proposal, what is equally concerning is the lack of integrity to the FCC’s process that has led to this point," Rosenworcel stated. Scholastic Q3 Results ‘On Track’

Revenue at Scholastic rose 3% in the third quarter ended February 28, over the comparable period a year ago, from $336.2 million to $344.7 million. However, investments to improve the company’s profitability and one-time charges led to a net loss of $49.2 million in the most recent quarter, up from $15.4 million a year ago. Despite the higher loss, Scholastic chairman Dick Robinson said the company’s results were in line with expectations. He noted that Scholastic is upping its per-share earnings forecast for the fiscal year ending May 31.
