Walmart Releases Q3 FY24 Earnings

Bertelsmann is expanding its footprint in Brazil’s fast-growing education market. The international media, services and education company is acquiring a 25-percent stake and 46 percent of the voting rights in Afya, the leading provider of medical education and training in Brazil, for the equivalent of €500 million. Bertelsmann co-founded and helped build Afya. The transaction is pending regulatory approval. Since 2017, Afya has grown its revenue by an average of 80 percent per year to €203 million in 2020. Based on market capitalization, Afya is Brazil’s largest education company focused on the medical field.

The American Catalog Mailers Association (ACMA), a trade group whose members rely heavily on a healthy national postal service, applauds President Trump’s recent formation of a task force to craft recommendations to reform the US Postal Service and return it to a durable business model. Meaningful change will require Congress to pass postal reform legislation. History has shown that reform initiatives are always difficult to get enacted into law and are virtually impossible without broad support from the key stakeholder groups (postal customers, postal management and postal labor groups). Any meaningful recommendations need the support from as many of these stakeholders are possible. The ACMA hopes the Task Force work will include hearing all of these perspectives and needs. Dear Industry Member: It's not too late to sign up and take part in ACMA's upcoming series of legislative meetings with Members of Congress on Capitol Hill on Oct. 4-5, 2023. Our industry is facing multiple threats across postal, tax, consumer privacy, and trade policy matters. ACMA has an aggressive plan to push back on this but it requires companies to engage with Congressional offices to educate and build support for our positions. Otherwise, the excessive cost and regulatory burdens will only continue. Given the current appetite for bill passage in Congress and in light of an election year on the horizon, our goal is to get these voted out of committee with a large number of cosponsors, then for several large pieces of moving legislation to serve as vehicles to secure passage. Specifically, from now through the end of the year, Congress will be working on such must-pass legislation, including bills to provide government funding, appropriations, and most likely a tax-extenders package. Pulling together a sizable group to meet with Members of Congress in early October will impact the outcome for our collective advantage. Your time out of the office will be minimal.
