USPS Reports Steady Service Performance Improvements Across All Mail Categories

Sixteen of the 50 titles on the longlist for the 2022 National Book Award are published by Penguin Random House US imprints: Five of the ten books longlisted in the Nonfiction category, and four in the Fiction category. So the publishing group has excellent chances at the NBA awards presentation on November 16. The NBAs are administered by the non-profit National Book Foundation. Penguin Random House has especially good chances this time in the important “Nonfiction” category. Here, Bertelsmann’s publishing houses account for fully half of the nominated titles: five out of ten. In the top category, “Fiction,” the U.S. publishing group scored four of the ten slots on the longlist. Columbus Monthly, Seattle Met, and Denver’s 5280 earned top prizes for General Excellence at the 33rd annual City & Regional Magazine Awards, administered by the University of Missouri School of Journalism and announced Monday at the City & Regional Mag Association’s annual meetup in New Orleans. Twenty-five year-old 5280 and 12 year-old Seattle Met were first-time winners in the General Excellence category, which is split into three prizes based on circulation level. Columbus Monthly, which won among magazines with a circulation of 30,000 or less, had previously won a General Excellence award under a different format in 2001. Third quarter results were negatively affected by continued demand weakness, particularly at FedEx Express. In addition, operating income was negatively affected by the effects of global inflation, partially offset by U.S. domestic yield improvement and cost-reduction actions. FedEx Ground operating results improved, primarily due to an 11% increase in revenue per package and cost-reduction actions. These factors were partially offset by lower package volume, higher infrastructure costs and increased other operating expenses. FedEx Freight operating results improved, driven by an 11% increase in revenue per shipment and a gain on the sale of a facility, partially offset by decreased shipments.
