UPM Raflatac partners with SGA and MCC in Italy to create sample book of wine, spirits, and craft beverage labels inspired by natural surfaces

UPM Raflatac is launching a new visual sample book to showcase its premium label materials for wine, spirits, and craft beverages. Designed in collaboration with a team from SGA Corporate & Packaging Design led by chief designer Giacomo Bersanetti, the book has been printed by leading Italian printing company Multi-Color Corporation (MCC). The book was inspired by the details and perspectives of the surfaces of the natural world, such as barks, petals, shells, and feathers.

The sample book is designed to inspire, stimulate, and excite designers, brand owners, and wineries, providing them with a tool to help select the perfect label materials to showcase their high-quality products. It demonstrates how label designs and label materials can complement each other and showcases the huge range of visual possibilities offered by UPM Raflatac’s solutions and expertise.

The nine label designs printed on 18 different materials capture the naturally occurring patterns and forms that provide inspiration for designers, reflecting UPM Raflatac’s commitment to sustainable packaging options. The sample book includes 62 blank labels in a wire-bound waterfall and technical data sheets for the label materials, as well as general information about the adhesives and backings that they can be paired with.

“Working closely with SGA and MCC, we wanted to create a visually impactful resource to inspire label designers, converters, and others in the value chain by showing how our label materials provide the perfect canvas for premium branding and creative designs,” explains Jay Betton, Business Segment Manager, Wine, Spirits, and Craft Beverages, EMEIA. “The designs showcase the latest trends in the segment, and the materials included are designed to meet the most discerning aesthetic and technically demanding requirements.”

AMB strengthens European footprint with PTS acquisition

Italian converter AMB SpA has acquired German firm PTS (Prime Tray System) Verpackungen, a manufacturer of injection-moulded cups, bags and composite plastics films. Located in Gauting, Bavaria, PTS has been responsible for sales of the AMB product range for several years. With the purchase, AMB is keen to strengthen its market position in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. AMB operates from five locations in Europe, employs 435 people and boasts turnover of more than €160 million ($184m).

O-I Glass Reports Full Year and Fourth Quarter 2021 Results

“We are pleased with O-I’s full year 2021 results, which rebounded strongly following the onset of the pandemic. Business performance exceeded the company’s guidance provided at the beginning of the year as well as our most recent business outlook. Sales and production volumes surpassed pre-COVID levels underscoring consumer preference for premium and sustainable glass packaging. Likewise, earnings benefited from very good operating performance and the company’s margin expansion initiatives,” said Andres Lopez, CEO of O-I. Reported Results: For the full year 2021, the company recorded earnings from continuing operations of $0.88 per share (diluted), compared to $1.57 per share (diluted) in 2020. Current year earnings from continuing operations before income taxes were $332 million, compared to $353 million in the prior year. Lower 2021 earnings primarily reflected the non-recurrence of a $275 million gain related to the 2020 sale of O-I’s Australia and New Zealand business unit, partially offset by higher operating results in 2021. Both periods included items management considers not representative of ongoing operations and other adjustments.
