Stora Enso has signed a new EUR 435 million bilateral loan with the European Investment Bank (EIB) to support the its growth in renewable, fiber-based consumer packaging board. Stora Enso’s EUR 1 billion investment in its Oulu mill in Finland is being financed, in part, by a new long-term bilateral loan. The loan features an amortising structure, with the final repayment anticipated in 2036, effectively lengthening the Group’s debt maturity profile. The mill, which is expected to begin operations with a novel, converted consumer board production line in the first half of 2025, will be one of the most modern and cost-efficient production sites for packaging materials in Europe. “The investment in Oulu supports our growth strategy in renewable, circular packaging by providing new volume for the growing packaging segment. The wood fiber is sourced from sustainably managed forests in the Nordics, and the boards are designed to replace plastics in food and personal care packaging,” says Hannu Kasurinen, Executive Vice President, Packaging Materials Division.

Mondi has created a new secondary paper packaging solution for wrapping bundles of food and drinks, replacing plastic shrink film that has been the industry standard. The new paper solution, TrayWrap, is made with Mondi’s Advantage StretchWrap and is being used by a coffee brand to secure 12 coffee packages for transportation across Sweden. The paper wrap holds the coffee packs tightly in place with 4-6 adhesive dots on the bottom side of the existing corrugated tray. Pre-punched folding points ensure stability on each open side, meaning that the products can be seen, stacked, transported and easily unpacked for sale.

Klabin, the largest producer and exporter of paper for packaging and sustainable solutions in paper packaging in Brazil, made official, this Wednesday (22), the start of operations at the Klabin Port Terminal (PAR-01), located on the wharf commercial center at the Port of Paranaguá, in Paraná. With the capacity to receive one million tons of pulp and paper per year, the Terminal is part of the investment package in logistics made by the Company in the State in recent years. With the operation, the unloading of short and long fiber pulp, fluff pulp and paper, from the Puma Units, located in Ortigueira (PR), and from the Monte Alegre Unit, in Telêmaco Borba (PR), can be carried out within the Port of Paranaguá. With a structure that covers an area of ​​27,530 m², leased by Klabin for 25 years, in an auction held in August 2019, the new operation also brings productivity and competitiveness to Klabin in Break Bulk, a mode of maritime cargo transport without the use of of containers, which ships large volumes directly inside the ships, allowing customers to be served on a large scale and with operational excellence.
