Stora Enso inaugurates its new polyethylene coating plant at Beihai Mill in China

Around 170 guests attended the official inauguration of the new polyethylene (PE) coating plant at the consumer board mill in Beihai, China today.

Stora Enso has invested EUR 31 million in the PE coating plant, following its establishment in the Guangxi region in China as a response to increasing demand on the market. The plant has an annual capacity of 80 000 tonnes of PE coated products. PE coated board is suitable for products that require barrier against moisture, such as paper cups and food service packaging.

This is yet another important milestone to support our customers in meeting growing consumer demand for high-quality, safe and renewable consumer board packaging in China and the Asia Pacific region,” says Karl-Henrik Sundström, CEO of Stora Enso.

The PE coating plant will enhance Stora Enso’s strategy for profitable growth as well as the company’s competitiveness by enabling short lead-times and full quality control for PE coated prime Food Service Board (FSB). It will also further enhance Stora Enso’s transformation into a global renewable materials growth company.

Mayr-Melnhof Group Reports Results for the 3rd quarter of 2020

At EUR 1,903.5 million, the Group's consolidated sales almost reached the previous year's level (1-3Q 2019: EUR 1,924.3 million). At EUR 169.3 million, the operating result was 13.4% or EUR 26.3 million below the previous year's figure (1-3Q 2019: EUR 195.6 million). This includes one-time expenses of EUR 57.5 million from adjustments necessary for market and structural reasons as well as the termination agreement with the former CEO. Of this, EUR 38.5 million are attributable to the cartonboard division and EUR 19.0 million to the packaging division. As a result, depreciation rose from EUR 101.6 million to EUR 137.8 million. The Group's operating margin was 8.9% (1-3Q 2019: 10.2%).

Sealed Air to Acquire Asian Specialty Foam Business

Sealed Air Corporation announced the acquisition of Fagerdala Singapore Pte Ltd., a manufacturer and fabricator of polyethylene foam. Sealed Air will acquire 100 percent of Fagerdala shares for approximately $100 million in cash. The sale is expected to close in October of 2017. Fagerdala, established in 1983 with headquarters in Singapore, has 14 manufacturing facilities, employs more than 1,300 people in China, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Mexico and the United States, and generated $80 million in sales in 2016. Sealed Air plans to leverage Fagerdala’s manufacturing footprint in Asia, expertise in foam manufacturing and fabrication, and commercial organization to grow sales in the consumer electronics, medical equipment and devices, automotive, temperature assurance, and e-commerce fulfillment sectors.
