Stora Enso completes the divestment of its Maxau paper site to Schwarz Produktion

The Koehler Paper Group has joined the 4evergreen alliance, thereby underlining its efforts to ensure sustainability and protect the environment. This forum was created by the Confederation of European Paper Industries (Cepi) with the aim of increasing the role played by fiber-based packaging in achieving a sustainable circular economy, while at the same time also minimizing the impact of packaging on our climate and environment. 4evergreen brings together the entire value chain and unites it behind a common goal: To increase the role of the bio-based economy within the packaging industry. The alliance is made up of paper manufacturers, food and drink brands like Nestlé and Danone, and companies within the packaging industry (including market leaders Tetra Pak and AR Packaging), but it also includes brands, retailers, and suppliers within the technological and material sectors, right up to those working in sorting and recycling.

2022 was another strong year for Canfor, with the strength in global lumber market fundamentals experienced late in 2021 continuing well into the current year. Significant lumber demand led by solid activity in both new home construction and the repair and remodel segment, encountered tight supply due to supply chain disruptions. The result was ongoing global pricing pressure and high benchmark lumber prices through the first part of the year. As the year progressed, rising interest rates and inflation put significant downward pressure on housing affordability and global lumber market demand, leading to a rapid decline in global lumber market pricing in the latter part of the year. In response, the Company implemented reduced operating schedules at its Western Canadian operations. The Company’s strong earnings, however, reflect the continued benefit of its global diversification strategy which helped to moderate these challenges in British Columbia (“BC”).

Our goal is for you to recognize Verso as a customer-centric organization that delivers best-in-class paper and pulp products with the highest level of service. We know that we have opportunities to improve in this area, and are working diligently to develop new initiatives to do just that. One way we believe we can become more customer-focused is by realigning the current structure and leadership of our Sales, Marketing and Supply Chain organization. We’ve determined that the SVP of Sales, Marketing and Supply Chain role can be more effective with three separate leadership positions. The good news is that you are already familiar with the leaders of these positions as outlined below. Aaron Haas will continue to lead the Marketing, Business Development, Product Development and Customer Technical Service organizations as SVP of Marketing and will continue to report to me. John Schultz will continue to lead the Sales organization as SVP of Sales for all product categories and will now report directly to me. Brian Seitz will continue to serve as Director of Supply Chain, which includes Customer Service, Logistics, and Planning, Scheduling and Delivery, under the leadership of David West.
