Six steps companies can take now to prepare for EUDR

The EU Commission is set to provide further clarity regarding the requirements of the European Union Regulation on Deforestation-free Products (EUDR). Yet, organizations don’t need to wait to begin their journey toward EUDR compliance.

Here are six steps companies – including FSC certificate and licence holders – can take now to prepare for EUDR compliance before 31 December 2024.

STEP 1: Create an inventory list of your commodities and/or products in scope
STEP 2: Review the proposed requirements for FSC’s new Regulatory Module
STEP 3: Review your current Due Diligence system against EUDR requirements
STEP 4: Collaboratively prepare with your supply chain
STEP 5: Plan for secure data exchange with trading partners
STEP 6: Reach out about your intentions for EUDR compliance to your certification body

Vietnam commits to forest certification and PEFC

The Vietnamese government has formulated a Forestry Development Strategy to help achieve this goal. Public Consultation: Indian Trees outside Forests certification standard

Stakeholders from around the world are invited to give feedback on NCCF’s Trees outside Forests Certification Standard. Deadline for comments is 25 November 2021. Give your feedback now! This is the first time Network for Certification and Conservation of Forests (NCCF), the PEFC national member for India, has applied for PEFC endorsement of its national Trees outside Forests (TOF) certification standard. TOF certification was one of the innovative developments of the 2018 PEFC Sustainable Forest Management standard. After developing the national standard in line with PEFC requirements, NCCF submitted it to PEFC for endorsement. The standard is now undergoing the PEFC assessment process, carried out by an independent PEFC Registered Assessor. It must pass this process and be approved by the PEFC General Assembly before it can achieve endorsement.
