Sappi Europe joins Intergraf as an associate member strengthening industry collaboration and innovation

Sappi Europe recently announced that it has now joined Intergraf’s group of 22 national member associations and 15 associate members across 25 countries, which will further its role in promoting the European print industry.

In the evolving print industry, Sappi strongly believes in the role of print for the next generation of readers, and for brands. People are hardwired to hold print—72% of people prefer printed material versus a digital version. It is viewed as 200% more intimate—people feel more valued when receiving printed mail over e-mail, and twice as likely to feel positive toward the sender. The return on investment speaks volumes—60% of people look up a brand online after receiving printed materials.

With declining print volumes, Sappi acknowledges that the paper industry must provide value beyond the product by aligning with projects and organisations that further the unique strengths of the European printing industry.

Norske Skog Skogn invests NOK 180 million

Norske Skog Skogn will invest around NOK 180 million, after NOK 40-50 million in grant funding from the NOx fund, in a new thermomechanical production line (TMP) that will replace expensive recycled paper with fresh fibre. The new TMP line will reduce variable costs, significantly reduce NOx and fossil CO2 emissions, and reduce landfilled waste. Start-up is expected in the first half of 2024. Today, newsprint is produced at Norske Skog Skogn with a pulp mix, consisting of wood fiber and recycled paper. Nature’s Flame wood pellets production company sold to New Zealand-based Talley’s Group

Norske Skog has entered into agreement with Talley’s Group, a New Zealand based dairy, fishing, produce and food company, to sell the Nature’s Flame pellets company for a consideration of approximately NZD 47.8 million (approximately NOK 280 million). The transaction is expected to close during the first quarter of 2022. “Nature’s Flame is an excellent company producing high quality and sustainable energy pellets from wood residues, and thus the sales process generated significant interest. Under our ownership, we have expanded the capacity from producing some 20,000 tonnes when acquired to currently 90,000 tonnes, and we are very pleased that Talley’s has indicated interest to continue the ongoing project to further expand the capacity to 150,000 tonnes."

Sylvamo Second Quarter Results Show Increased Earnings and Operating Margins
