Resolute Forest Products Wins 2017 AF&PA Sustainability Award for Energy Efficiency and Greenhouse Gas Reduction

The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) recognized Resolute Forest Products with the 2017 AF&PA Leadership in Sustainability Award for Energy Efficiency/Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Reduction for their GHG Reduction Program. The award was presented at AF&PA’s annual meeting on November 3 in Greensboro, Georgia.

“A series of environmental commitments led Resolute to implement voluntary and pro-active improvements to drastically reduce GHG emissions from their facilities,” said AF&PA President and CEO Donna Harman.

Resolute adopted a series of ambitious sustainability commitments, including a goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (scope 1 and 2) from their facilities by 65 percent between 2000 and 2015. By improving the energy efficiency of their operations and increasing their use of lower carbon fuels, Resolute surpassed that goal. At the end of 2016, the company had lowered GHG emissions by 73 percent compared to 2000 levels, equivalent to the removal of 1.82 million cars off the road.

Kotkamills to become first-ever sustainability partner of Norwich

Norwich City and Kotkamills are delighted to announce their sustainability partnership, the first ever in the club’s history. The multi-year partnership will see Kotkamills work with the club to reduce the amount of plastic waste that is disposed of as a by-product of food and drink at Carrow Road football stadium and the Lotus Training Centre. The partnership is a part of the measures aimed at achieving the club’s wider sustainability goals. Once fans are allowed back to the stadium, they will see the revolutionarily easily recyclable paperboard to have replaced plastic cups and food boxes. As a result, the changes already implemented will result in over 100,000 items switch to plastic-free over the next three years with a view of continuously implementing more sustainable measure over this time.

Paper recycling chain exceeds its voluntary commitment

The paper recycling rate in Europe reached an impressive 71.5% as announced by the European Recovered Paper Council (ERPC) in their final monitoring report for 2015. Compared to 2010, collection and recycling has increased by almost one million tonnes of paper. This is due in part to the excellent work of the ERPC. The 2015 European paper recycling rate of 71.5% is 1.5% higher than the target set by the ERPC in the 3rd European Declaration on Paper Recycling for the period 2010-2015.
