Pioneering a Restorative Approach: Inteplast is ISCC Plus Certified

In alignment with Inteplast Group’s sustainability goals, the BOPP Films business unit has received ISCC (International Sustainability & Carbon Certification) PLUS certification at the following facilities: Gray Court, SC; Lolita, TX; and Morristown, TN. Inteplast BOPP Films can now produce and supply ISCC-certified materials that are attributed via a mass balance approach.** This makes the company one of the first North American BOPP film manufacturers to hold the ISCC PLUS designation.

Paul Marquard, general manager and vice president of BOPP Films, said that the ISCC PLUS certification and its mass balance approach fortifies circular economic development in the 21st century, making waste a restorative resource.

“Inteplast BOPP Films is committed to embracing the principles of a circular economy, which will shape our operational procedures and product innovation. With our ISCC PLUS certification, we are equipped to provide cutting-edge recycling solutions that align with the objectives of packaging converters and consumer product companies,” Marquard explained. “Ultimately, our certified materials contribute to a significant reduction in the utilization of fossil-based virgin plastics within packaging.”

Rafael Bayona, director of research and development, quality assurance, and technology, explained that customers’ demand for incorporated recycled materials is increasing.

Cascades Reports Results for the Third Quarter of 2024

Sequentially stronger results were driven by our Containerboard business, where higher average selling prices and lower production expenses offset the impact of higher raw material costs. Specialty Products results were stable, with stronger selling prices fully mitigating raw material cost and sales mix headwinds. As forecasted, third quarter Tissue Papers results were lower than the previous quarter due to higher average raw material costs and lower pricing related to the expected changes in the mix of products sold." Highlights: Sales of $1,201 million (compared with $1,180 million in Q2 2024 and $1,198 million in Q3 2023); Operating income of $36 million (compared with $34 million in Q2 2024 and $80 million in Q3 2023);

Berry Global and Mars, Incorporated Announce the Launch of Recycled Content Packaging

Berry Global Group, Inc. is collaborating with snack and treats leader Mars, Incorporated to launch its popular pantry-sized treats in polyethylene terephthalate (PET) jars that have been optimized to be lighter weight and include 15% post-consumer resin (PCR). With the shared mission of creating more sustainable packaging solutions, Berry and Mars will launch the new jars for the M&M’S®, SKITTLES®, and STARBURST® brands later this month. The easy-grip square jars are produced at Berry’s manufacturing facility, using a single-pellet, food-grade resin to assure a clean, consistent substrate sourced from mechanical recycling. With a history of results in light-weighting, Berry approached Mars with the new concept including PCR. Berry brought its problem-solving and technical expertise to the table to help Mars make progress toward their sustainability goals. In addition to the inclusion of PCR, the jar is also widely recyclable.
