Paper Excellence again voted one of Corporate Knights Best 50 Corporate Citizens

Paper Excellence Canada today announced it has once again been voted one of Canada’s 2022 Best 50 corporate citizens by Corporate Knights. Paper Excellence Canada is a diversified manufacturer of pulp and paper, including printing and writing, packaging, and specialty papers.

The Best 50 award is judged using key performance indicators that relate to the organization’s raw resource use, emissions profile, social performance, safety performance, and percentage of revenue from clean sources.

“We continue to be proud of our long association with Corporate Knights and their Best 50 program. Our sustainability report, Forward Focused: 2022 Sustainability Report, was just published last week and I encourage anyone interested in Paper Excellence Canada to read it,” said Graham Kissack, Vice President, Environment, Health & Safety and Corporate Communications.

In 2022, Paper Excellence achieved a 67% reduction of its greenhouse gas emissions relative to 1990 while using an energy basket made up of 82% renewables. 34% of the organization’s solid waste is beneficially reused or recycled while 35% of its electricity comes from self-generated green power.

Paper Excellence’s products are certified to numerous independent sustainable forestry standards including the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC), and the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI).

Bio-Pappel-McKinley Acquires Midwest Paper Group

McKinley Paper Company, the U.S. wholly-owned subsidiary of Bio PAPPEL, continues to grow in the U.S. and today announces the acquisition of 100% of Midwest Paper Group (“Midwest”) from the investment fund IOP. The acquisition of Midwest Paper Group, a large independent containerboard producer located in Wisconsin with a production capacity of 500 thousand tons annually, fits well with Bio PAPPEL– McKinley and substantially increases its current U.S. containerboard production. This allows the company to have a nationwide coverage to support McKinley’s plans of continuous growth in its packaging division as well as to reliably supply its current customer base throughout the U.S. With the acquisition of Midwest Paper Group, as well as the currently under construction and planned super plants of corrugated boxes, Bio PAPPEL will reach combined annual revenues in excess of $3 billion dollars, keeping a low debt level and financial investment grade rating.

American Forest & Paper Association Releases May 2018 Printing-Writing Paper Monthly Report

Total printing-writing paper shipments decreased five percent in May compared to May 2017. Total printing-writing paper inventory levels decreased three percent from April. Imports of printing-writing papers in April increased four percent compared to April 2017 imports, while exports declined one percent compared to April 2018. •Uncoated free sheet (UFS) paper shipments in May 2018 edged down slightly year-over-year. Imports of UFS decreased less than one-half of one percent year-over-year in April. Exports of UFS papers increased 13 percent in April compared to April 2017. •Purchases of coated mechanical (CM) papers increased year-over-year in May 2018 for the second time this year. Imports of CM increased 24 percent year-over-year in April. Exports of CM increased two percent year-over-year in April. •Shipments of coated free sheet (CFS) paper and uncoated mechanical (UM) papers in May both declined year-over-year. Imports of UM papers increased seven percent compared to April 2017, while imports of CFS papers decreased 12 percent compared to last April.
