At Koehler, sustainable management, thinking and acting is part of the corporate strategy. This also includes taking care of the immediate surroundings of the individual plants and assuming responsibility. This includes sponsoring streams, building nesting boxes or maintaining orchard meadows. Or even a tree planting campaign, as has now taken place in Greiz.
“As one of the largest employers in Greiz, we have a responsibility to the town and the people”, says Udo Hollbach, Managing Director of Koehler Greiz GmbH & Co. KG. The idea of the tree planting campaign, which has now been put into practice, was born in discussions with the town council. “With this, we are not only doing something for the environment, but also promoting company health management”.
Different topics are combined
Thomas Drechsler agrees. He is the company health management responsible at Koehler Greiz and is the leader of the tree planting campaign. “The trees are 200 silver firs and 200 copper beeches each,” he says. “We are also planting 15 wild cherries.” The forest was identified by the district forester who is accompanying the action.
“It was important to us that our employees participate in the campaign and that we as a company do not just donate money,” says Drechsler. “In this way, we were able to build a bridge between sustainability, which is anchored in our corporate strategy, environmental protection and the health of our employees.
Further actions planned in 2020
Exercise in the fresh air is an important part of maintaining health and promoting well-being. This was also the maxim of the 12 employees who took part in the tree planting campaign in the best weather and literally got their hands dirty.
“I think it’s great that our campaign was so well received,” says Hollbach, who himself set a good example. And Drechsler adds: “This year we will be carrying out further campaigns. First and foremost, of course, we are keen to launch campaigns that appeal to our employees and motivate them to play an active role”. In any case, the motivation for the tree planting campaign was unmistakable, which was not only due to the “Roster”, the Thuringian grilled sausage, which all participants enjoyed together at the end of the event.
