Novolex Appoints Ted Jackson, President Of Performance Solutions

Novolex® announced today that Theodore (Ted) Jackson has been appointed President of the company’s Performance Solutions segment which includes the Heritage® can liner, Shields® custom flexible film, and specialty laminations businesses. Jackson assumes this role after rising through a series of positions with increasing responsibility within Novolex and, before joining the company, broad experience in general operations and consulting.

“Ted has demonstrated exceptional leadership in a variety of roles at Novolex,” said Novolex Chairman and CEO Stan Bikulege, “and I’m truly excited to have him join my Senior Leadership Team. His deep knowledge of our values, operations and products makes him ideally suited to take on this key role at the company. We will also benefit from his extensive experience in a variety of consulting roles which will bring new valuable insights to our Performance Solutions businesses and customers.”

Most recently Jackson was Executive Vice President, Operations for the Novolex Food & Delivery segment where he oversaw manufacturing operations across 30 plants in North America that produced both fiber and resin packaging.

World’s largest kraftliner machine enters service in Obbola

The world’s largest machine for the production of kraftliner has entered service in Obbola in Västerbotten, outside Umeå, eastern Sweden. With a total investment of SEK 7.5 billion, this major project has been completed ahead of schedule and within budget, significantly increasing opportunities to produce packaging materials that replace plastic. “At full capacity, the machine will increase capacity from 450,000 tonnes to 725,000 tonnes a year, enabling our renewable kraftliner to replace large amounts of plastic and improve the [Obbola] plant’s competitiveness on the global market,” says Gustaf Nygren, SCA Obbola Plant Director. The Expansion Obbola investment project has a total budget of SEK 7.5 billion, of which approximately SEK 1 billion has been earmarked for environmental improvements at the site. For example, a biofuel-fired mesa furnace has been installed at the plant with the potential to phase out the use of fossil fuels and save 20,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.

Prinzhorn’s Hamburger Rieger to start construction of 500,000 tonne/yr containerboard machine (RISI)

In March 2018, Hamburger Rieger GmbH will start the scheduled construction of its second paper machine at its Spremberg location. The new plant’s commissioning is scheduled for summer 2020. The planned product range includes white and brown corrugated base papers (testliner) based on 100% recycled paper. With a width of 7.80 metres, the machine will produce 500,000 tonnes of paper per year. For the preparation of white base materials an environmentally friendly deinking section will be installed. It combines innovative resource-conserving raw material processing and the paper machine's patented mode of operation.
