Mondi’s Advantage StretchWrap clinches Fastmarkets PPI Product Innovation Award

Mondi worked closely with Noel Alimentaria to identify the best possible packaging solution for their range of plant-based and meat food. The collaboration resulted in Noel Alimentaria choosing Mondi’s PerFORMing paper-based tray to pack its rebranded range of sliced plant-based food and vegetarian burgers ‘Verday’. Verday is used by Marks and Spencer’s for its ‘Plant Kitchen’ range in the UK and supplied to Nordic markets for ham and charcuterie products. Being formable, the trays can be moulded and adapted to a range of different-sized food products, with high symmetrical stretch for uniform formability, ideal for shallow food trays. PerFORMing offers strong barrier protection against moisture and oxygen, keeping the food fresh throughout the storage and distribution process. The trays consist of 80% paper compared to the industry standard where they are made of 100% plastic, which means the plastic content of the tray has been greatly reduced. The paper tray is designed for recycling and passed the recyclability tests by German institute PTS (Papiertechnische Stiftung, method RH:021/97).

Total Containerboard production in June increased one percent compared to June 2019. It was up five percent when compared to the same six months of 2019. June 2020 production of containerboard for export increased five percent compared to the same month last year; it was up 34 percent year-to-date. The containerboard operating rate was 90.1 percent, up 1.8 points from June 2019 and up 3.9 points year-to-date. Mill inventories of containerboard at the end of June decreased 4,000 short tons from the previous month and were up 48,000 short tons compared to June 2019.

Stora Enso's Chief Financial Officer and Deputy CEO, Seppo Parvi, has decided to leave Stora Enso to assume a role with a company outside of the forest industry. He will leave Stora Enso during the fourth quarter of 2024. “Since joining in 2014, Seppo Parvi has, in his role as CFO and member of Stora Enso’s Group Leadership Team, been integral in transforming Stora Enso to ‘The renewable materials company’. He has also played an important role as Stora Enso’s Country Manager Finland, and in developing the forest industry more broadly.
