Mondi increases FunctionalBarrier Paper capacity to meet growing customer demand

Mondi is investing in innovative technologies to increase FunctionalBarrier Paper capacity in order to meet the growing demand for sustainable paper-based packaging solutions. Mondi’s range of FunctionalBarrier Paper offers tailored barrier properties that reduce the amount of plastic used in packaging, supporting the development of a circular economy. The range is being supported with an investment in a new extruder at Mondi Coating Štetí (Czech Republic). This will comprise the construction of a production building which will house state-of-the-art machinery such as an extrusion coater and a slitting machine. Production is expected to start in 2024.

In addition, investment is currently underway at Mondi Jülich (Germany) with the rebuild of an existing coater. Two new dispersion coating stations will improve barrier properties by ensuring good coverage on the base paper. The construction of a new coating kitchen is also part of the rebuild and will enable the pre-coating of base paper and expand the offering to include more paper grades, especially containing recycled content. These investments underpin the advantage of Mondi’s integrated value chain, from responsible sourcing, to production, coating and packaging converting into the final product. Mondi will also be investing in and optimising its Örebro (Sweden) production facility, to further improve production of its FunctionalBarrier Paper range, as well as create additional employment.

As a replacement for plastic films and laminates, the FunctionalBarrier Paper range offers fibre-based packaging alternatives that are particularly suitable for fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) and can be recycled in existing paper waste streams across Europe. With varying barrier levels, the range is tailor made for industrial and eCommerce applications as well as personal care, frozen food and chocolate packaging.

Berry Global Group, Inc. announced its agreement with its longtime supplier, Repsol, to supply circular resins. Spanish multi-energy global company Repsol will supply Berry with ISCC Plus certified circular polyolefins from its Repsol Reciclex® range. These polyolefins are obtained by advanced recycling, enabled by the adoption of new chemical recycling technologies, of post-consumer plastic waste not suitable for traditional recycling. As a result of the agreement, Berry will procure food-grade polypropylene for food and healthcare packaging. Repsol has certified all its petrochemical complexes to produce circular polyolefins under the ISCC PLUS certification. Kimberly-Clark Announces Full-Year 2023 Results And 2024 Outlook

Fourth quarter sales of $5.0 billion were in line with prior year, with organic sales up 3 percent, driven by a 2 percent increase in price from ongoing revenue growth management programs and a 1 percent favorable product mix, with volumes in line with the prior year period and volume trends improving for the fourth consecutive quarter. In North America, organic sales increased 3 percent over last year, including increases of 5 percent in Personal Care and 3 percent in Consumer Tissue that were partially offset by a 3 percent decrease in K-C Professional. Outside North America, organic sales were up 5 percent in developing and emerging (D&E) markets. Organic sales in developed markets (Australia, South Korea and Western/Central Europe) grew 1 percent versus prior year. Gross margin improved by 210 basis points to 34.9 percent, with higher net revenue realization, cost savings and favorable input costs partially offset by unfavorable currency impacts and higher other manufacturing costs. Fourth quarter operating profit was $670 million compared to $712 million last year, resulting in an operating margin of 13.5 percent.

ePac Announces Expansion into Kansas City
