Metsä Board concludes logistics agreements for Kemi board mill

Metsä Board has concluded a logistics agreement with Kuljetusliike Kalevi Huhtala Oy for transport between the Kemi board mill and Ajos harbour, in Kemi. All exports from the Kemi board mill will be centralised in Ajos.

“Efficient export logistics is a key factor in paperboard production. We require efficient and low-emission solutions from our chosen partners in logistics,” says Timo Ahonen, VP, Kemi Board mill.

The signed agreement is a continuation of an agreement signed earlier by Metsä Group for the transportation of products from the bioproduct mill under construction in Kemi, and has a part in ensuring efficient and environmentally friendly logistics solutions between Metsä Group’s Kemi integrated mill and the Ajos harbour. Transport under the contract will start on 1.4.2023.

Metsä Board Kemi mill has a capacity of 425,000 tonnes of high-quality white kraftliner per year. A development programme is underway to increase the mill’s production capacity by 40 000 tonnes to 465 000 tonnes per year. At the same time, significant improvements will be made in the mill’s water and energy consumption.

IPC Announcement – New Honeycomb Line in Arcadia, WI

Industrial Packaging Corporation (IPC) has announced the addition of a new Kraft Paper Honeycomb panel line in Arcadia, WI, located 40 miles northwest of La Crosse, WI. This new equipment adds to IPC’s Honeycomb capacity, currently supplied from Wilton, IA. With two Honeycomb operations in the Upper Midwest, IPC will better service the states of Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota. Additionally, this will free up capacity restraints in the Wilton, IA facility to better serve Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, and Illinois. IPC is a family owned and has been in business since 1989. In addition to Kraft Paper Honeycomb, IPC manufactures Build Up A-flute products of Angle Pads, U Channels, and Flat Pads, in Tomahawk, WI, Arcadia, WI and Fort Payne, AL.

MSU celebrates opening of newly renovated School of Packaging building with ribbon-cutting ceremony

Michigan State University celebrated the opening of the newly renovated MSU School of Packaging building on April 20, following a fundraising campaign that raised more than $10 million. “This significant expansion of our facilities, enabled by the generosity of donors and stakeholders, will reinforce MSU’s longstanding leadership in packaging education,” said MSU Interim President Teresa K. Woodruff, Ph.D. “These improvements anchor our commitment to the excellence of our School of Packaging and will help us prepare the next generation of leaders in packaging science.” Established in 1952, the MSU School of Packaging was the first school of packaging in the United States and now is the largest packaging program in the country, with over 600 undergraduate and graduate students.
