Lecta to Increase Prices on its Self-Adhesive Range Effective for Deliveries From the 19th of April 2021

Mondi South Africa has announced a significant commitment of over €680,000 (R13 million) towards water stewardship, prolonging its partnership with WWF South Africa for another three years to 2027. This marks the fourth phase of the WWF-Mondi Partnership, which has been in place for over 30 years and is one of the longest-running corporate partnerships of WWF South Africa. The partnership has historically focused on wetland conservation and water stewardship in priority catchments, and it will continue to address the pressing need for water security in South Africa. Mondi South Africa aims to work within its operations to reduce its water footprint, and support water security initiatives beyond our operational boundaries. The partnership brings together multiple stakeholder groups such as government representatives, local communities, NGOs and other private sector organisations.

Paper Excellence Canada announced the curtailment of operations at its pulp mill in Mackenzie, British Columbia targeting the final week of June 2020. Paper Excellence has substantially invested to improve mill operations since acquiring the Mackenzie facility in 2010. Despite best efforts by the company and its committed team of employees in Mackenzie, the COVID-19 global pandemic is having negative impacts on pulp markets creating conditions that no longer support the on-going operation of the mill. Furthermore, the deep fibre shortage in BC and the Mackenzie region have affected the mill’s competitiveness. This shortage was exacerbated by recent curtailment of sawmills in the Mackenzie region dramatically reducing economic fibre availability.

The transaction includes the acquisition of CPG’s Carmignano and Condino Mills in Italy, its digital imaging business located in Cham, Switzerland as well as all brands and know-how. The main benefits of the acquisition include: Supports Sappi’s diversification strategy and 2020vision to grow in higher margin growth segments; Strengthens Sappi Europe’s specialities and packaging papers footprint and skills; adds 160,000 tons of speciality paper to our capacity; Increases Sappi’s relevance in specialities and packaging papers, opening up new customers and markets to Sappi’s existing products and generating economies of scale and synergies; Gaining greater share-of-wallet with valued brand owners; accelerating innovation and new product development; Improved near-term profitability and serve as platform for organic growth and further acquisitions. Will add €183 million of sales and approximately €20 million of EBITDA before taking into account synergies; Builds on the investments currently underway to increase specialities and packaging papers capacity at our Somerset, Maastricht and Alfeld Mills; Unlocks the growth potential of the CPG speciality paper business.
