Holmen receives global sustainability award

Holmen has gained international recognition for its strategic sustainability work, with a focus on the bioeconomy and a sustainable approach to forestry. The Golden Peacock Awards jury made particular reference to Holmen’s absorption of carbon dioxide in its growing forest and the climate benefit from its products.

“Being the first Swedish company to receive this global sustainability award is a mark of the quality of our long-term sustainability work. Holmen manages its forest holdings actively and sustainably, with the raw material from the forest forming a key component in society’s drive to meet the challenge of climate change. We are extremely proud to have our strategy recognised in this way,” comments Henrik Sjölund, President and CEO of Holmen.

The Golden Peacock Awards were founded in 1991 by the Institute of Directors (IoD) in India. Each year, over 1000 applications are submitted from businesses all over the world. The awards help to promote global awareness of exemplary sustainability work by organisations and individuals. The awards are divided into four global categories, of which sustainability is one. The awards ceremony will take place in London on 25 October at the London Global Convention 2017.

Billerud keeps leading position in sustainability index

For 2022, Billerud received even more points than last year and thus retains its position as one of the world’s most sustainable companies in its industry sector. This year’s results from the globally recognized Dow Jones Sustainability Indices show that Billerud continues to be one of the leading companies in the Containers & Packaging category. The Dow Jones Sustainability Indices is based on the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA), which is a comprehensive annual evaluation of corporate sustainability efforts and performance. The Dow Jones Sustainability World Index includes the top ten percent of more than 2500 publicly listed companies.

Ukraine celebrates the endorsement of its national system

The Association National Voluntary Forest Certification System, our member for Ukraine, is the latest national forest certification system to achieve PEFC endorsement. “The date 19 June 2021 has become a holiday for our organisation, the day our system was endorsed by PEFC,” said Mariya Maha, the National Secretary for the Association National Voluntary Forest Certification System. “It was a long, two-year path, with a lot of a challenges, but also with a lot of a small wins and the greatest thing is that we have made plenty of strong connections with all stakeholders.” After developing the national system in line with PEFC requirements, the Association submitted the system to PEFC for endorsement in 2020. The national system then underwent the PEFC assessment process, carried out by an independent PEFC Registered Assessor, as well as a public consultation.
