FSC Response to EU Commission’s Proposal to Postpone EUDR

The work has included development of a new depot in Snodland, the installation of new balers at its Snodland, Blackburn and Glasgow depots and an additional weighbridge in Nottingham to ease traffic flow into and out of the depot there. The new Snodland depot in Kent is processing locally-sourced paper and cardboard for recycling at the Group’s new Smurfit Kappa Townsend Hook mill on the same site, which operates a state-of-the-art 5m lightweight paper machine producing approximately 250,000 tonnes of quality containerboard material per year. The depot will also supply recycled paper grades not used at Townsend Hook to other mills. Smurfit Kappa Recycling has constructed the new depot on part of the mill site freed up by its redevelopment, installing a new Bollegraaf HBC 120 baler in a new facility designed to operate efficiently and safely.

SCA has become a co-owner of SE technology and the pilot facility developed and operated by SweTree Technologies. With SE technology, it is possible to quickly and efficiently produce more plants from the best seed material from forest breeding. SweTree Technologies is running a pilot project to develop automated plant production via Somatic Embryogenesis (SE) in collaboration with forestry companies Stora Enso, Sveaskog, Södra, and Holmen. Now, SCA has also joined the project as an SE company and become a co-owner of SE technology and the pilot facility developed and operated by SweTree Technologies. So far, the development has focused on spruce plants, but with SCA's involvement, SweTree has also started the development of SE technology for pine. This is being done jointly with all participating companies, parallel to the ongoing development for spruce.

The Two Sides North America (TSNA) Board of Directors is pleased to announce the election of four new Board members to serve two-year terms beginning January 1, 2022: Vanecia Carr, Domtar Corporation; Edward Jansen, Canon Solutions America, Inc.; Jim Montague, Sylvamo Corporation; Lindsay Murphy, American Forest and Paper Association. In other business, The TSNA Board elected William Rojack, MIDLAND, to succeed Hester as Board Chairman effective January 1. “Two Sides has accomplished a great deal in its first 10 years, but there is much more to do as the print, paper and paper-based packaging industry continues to confront unsubstantiated claims about the sustainability of our industry and our products,” Rojack says. “I look forward to leading TSNA’s talented Board as we look for new ways to share our industry’s great sustainability story and as we directly respond to misleading environmental claims in ways that individual companies and other organizations cannot.”
