FSC launches dedicated site to streamline EUDR compliance

Following the introduction of FSC Aligned for EUDR – a set of solutions offered by FSC to support certificate holders with meeting the requirements of the EU Regulation on Deforestation-free Products (EUDR) – we have launched a comprehensive site to help with navigating these solutions. The FSC EUDR Journey site is now available to help certificate holders at every stage of their compliance journey.

Since it came into force in 2023, the EUDR has posed a major challenge for those affected. FSC has made it our mission to support our certificate holders through the compliance process as much as possible. Being FSC-certified is already a very strong start – and our tailored EUDR solutions will help take certificate holders the rest of the way.

It can seem like a lot: new requirements, new processes, new reporting systems, and more. But with FSC Aligned for EUDR and the accompanying FSC EUDR Journey site, much of this complexity and overwhelm can be resolved.

Electric Vehicles Will Travel Much Further Than Drivers Expect, Study Finds

Electric vehicles (EVs) will meet the daily travel needs of drivers longer than commonly assumed, according to the first study of its kind carried out by scientists at the US Department of Energy's Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Many drivers and much prior literature on the retirement of EV batteries have assumed that EV batteries will be retired after the battery has lost 20 percent of its energy storage or power delivery capability. This study shows that the daily travel needs of drivers continue to be met well beyond these levels of battery degradation. Samveg Saxena, who leads a vehicle powertrain research program at Berkeley Lab, analyzed real-world driving patterns and found that batteries that have lost 20 percent of their originally rated energy storage capacity can still meet the daily travel needs of more than 85 percent of U.S. drivers.

Get to Know JDI’s Summer Students–Tree Planting Auditor

Sandra Mae Watling is a second year Forestry student at the University of New Brunswick's Fredericton campus. This summer she is one of the 110 students working in J.D. Irving, Limited’s (JDI) tree planting operations. Sandra Mae is a tree planting auditor, following behind the planting crew to ensure that all trees are planted to a quality standard. The nine auditors across the company are looking for quality indicators as they check their plots. Indicators include ensuring that seedlings are spaced appropriately, planted at the correct depth and that seedlings aren’t damaged or leaning.
