FSC International Releases Global Market Survey

Every two years, FSC International conducts a survey of certified companies worldwide, to better understand perspectives about FSC and the market for FSC-certified products. Recently, FSC released the Global Market Survey for 2014, which includes a range of interesting findings.

The survey was conducted during June-July 2014, with results based on responses from 3,656 certificate holders from 95 countries. This represents a 13 percent response rate (based on 27,289 certified companies in the FSC system at that time). 445 responses came from companies in the U.S.

Some of the key findings include the following:
* Client demand was the most common reason to become FSC certified, cited by 52.5 percent of respondents.
* 81.5 percent of certificate holders say the FSC label adds value to their products.
* 78.9 percent of certificate holders are satisfied with their FSC certification.
* 89.3 percent of certificate holders consider FSC to be a credible organization.

In addition to the findings above, the report digs into details about different sectors in the forest products industry.

For example, paper is the most commonly purchased FSC certified product with the paper industry going through transition. The graphic paper subsector is suffering from decreasing demand, while demand for packaging-grade paper is rising significantly due to the increasing demand for online shopping.

The Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) 2022 Chain of Custody Standard has met our rigorous third-party assessment and is PEFC endorsed. France seeks PEFC re-endorsement: public consultation open

Stakeholders globally are invited to provide feedback on its compliance with PEFC International's Sustainability Benchmarks by 23 August 2016. France first achieved PEFC endorsement of its national system back in 2000, and now becomes the latest country to have submitted a system for re-endorsement for a third time. The country is home to over 8 million hectares of certified forest, and with over 2000 Chain of Custody certificates, France is the world leader in PEFC Chain of Custody certified companies. PEFC International ensures that national systems are revised regularly in multi-stakeholder processes by limiting the validity of endorsements to five years, after which they can apply for re-endorsement to continue benefitting from PEFC recognition. As part of the endorsement process, PEFC seeks comments and feedback from all interested parties to ensure full compliance of the national systems with PEFC's Sustainability Benchmark during a 60-day global public consultation.

PEFC Austria raises awareness for sustainable forestry

Under the theme ”Das g’fallt dem Wald” (“The forest likes that“), PEFC Austria concluded their successful multimedia campaign, raising awareness for the role of sustainable forestry in reaching the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the contribution that each of us can make. The message was clear: the PEFC label assures consumers that wood-based products come from sustainably managed forests. Choosing products carrying the label means contributing to healthy forests and active climate protection. One of the highlights of the campaign was PEFC Austria’s participation in the "INITIATIVE2030 - live the goals" project. The voluntary, non-profit information initiative publicises and disseminates the core contents of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals.
