Finland forest certification system submitted for assessment

The Finland Forest Certification System has been submitted to PEFC for assessment. The public consultation, which is your chance to give your feedback on this revised system, will run from 15 March to 12 May 2022.

PEFC Finland revised the country’s national forest certification system following the entry into force of the revised 2018 PEFC Sustainable Forest Management standard.

To provide you with additional information, we are holding a webinar on 14 March, at 10:00 CET. The webinar is free to attend, and everyone is welcome.

The Finnish system was submitted to PEFC after being revised in line with PEFC requirements. The national system is now undergoing the PEFC assessment process, carried out by an independent PEFC Registered Assessor. It must pass this assessment to maintain its PEFC endorsement.

An important aspect of the assessment process is the public consultation. Over the sixty-day consultation, stakeholders from around the world can give their comments and provide feedback on any aspect of the system. The Registered Assessor will use the information received from this consultation in their assessment of the system.

APP’s response to Mongabay’s article “Paper giant denies secretly owning ‘independent’ suppliers” published on 5 June 2018

In reference to Goh Lin Piao, Managing Director of APP's response in the Mongabay article as to whether other Sinar Mas businesses fell outside our Forest Conservation Policy, his answer specifically refereed to Golden Energy and Resources, which is a public-listed coal mining operation. He underlined the point that each industry and each supply chain has its only unique production and sustainability challenges and hence requires its own unique policy in line with the industry in which it operates in – even within companies that are part of the same brand. The sustainability challenges faced by a forest company will be different from those of a mining business. The Forest Conservation Policy was drafted specifically for APP and its wood supply chain. It has done tremendous good for it. Nevertheless, it is too simplistic to imagine that APP’s FCP is a one-size fits all solution for all companies in different industries. Atlantic’s E-waste Recycling Program

Atlantic just sent 17 pallets of electronic waste to a recycling facility. That’s 7,749 pounds of waste that will be given a new life instead of sitting in a landfill! Every employee at a company has a unique perspective, and when they’re presented with inspiration their great ideas come to life. Two years ago, Nate Huot began collecting old hardware laying around Atlantic’s facilities. This process gradually grew into a popular, new program at Atlantic. Old computers, copiers, monitors, battery backups, and a variety of other products have been collected from our locations in Acworth, Dalton, Greensboro, Tabor City, Wilmington, and Sturgis. These used devices would have ended up in a landfill if it wasn’t for the E-Waste Recycling Program. E-waste is full of valuable rare earth elements (REE’s) and toxic minerals. If these materials are not disposed of properly, they can pollute the environment.
