Euro-Graph Publishes July 2017 Statistics of the European Graphic Papers Industry

Total European shipments of graphic papers in July 2017 were up 1.1% vs. July 2016 and are down 0.6% year-to-date.
Total European shipments of newsprint in July 2017 were down 3.3% vs. July 2016 and are down 3.9% year-to-date.
Total European shipments of sc-magazine papers in July 2017 were up 0.9% vs. July 2016 and are up 2.0% year-to-date.
Total European shipments of coated mecanical reels in July 2017 were up 5.0% vs. July 2016 and are down 1.1% year-to-date.
Total European shipments of uncoated mecanical (improved & others) in July 2017 were up 5.8% vs. July 2016 and are up 1.9% year-to-date.
Total European shipments of coated woodfree in July 2017 were up 1.9% vs. July 2016 and are up 1.5% year-to-date.
Total European shipments of uncoated woodfree in July 2017 were up 0.9% vs. July 2016 and are down 0.5% year-to-date.

AF&PA and Industry Partners Aim to Set the Record Straight – Pizza Boxes Are Recyclable, Grease and Cheese Not an Issue

The American Forest & Paper Association released new industry guidance that aims to clear up consumer confusion regarding the recyclability of pizza boxes. The guidance resulted from a study conducted by WestRock – an AF&PA member company – that found the presence of grease and cheese at levels typically found on pizza boxes does not impact manufacturing in a negative way. “Corrugated pizza boxes are successfully recycled every day at paper mills throughout the country, yet consumers remain confused by mixed messages suggesting that some boxes should not be put in the recycle bin,” said AF&PA President and CEO Heidi Brock. “So, let’s be clear: pizza boxes are recyclable. Consumers should not be concerned about grease or cheese – simply remove any leftover pizza and place the box in the recycle bin. We encourage communities to update their residential recycling programs guidelines to explicitly accept pizza boxes that are free of food.”

Fire Outbreak at Kotkamills’ sawmill on April 14th caused minor damage, sawmill production will start on April 15th

Fire at Kotkamills' sawmill at 3:45 in a Debarker machine caused minor financial damages. No one was injured. In-house fire-Fighters and Municipal fire-Fighters opened the machine and extinguished the fire. The fire caused only minor damages on the sawmill's production. Repair and maintenance work has been done today. Tomorrow, on April 15th, after the production test runs, the sawmill production will be restarted. According to current estimates, the financial damages will be a few tens of thousands of euros. The production at the paper and board machines was not affected.

SCA increases prices on publication paper

SCA increases prices on coated publication paper, CMR , and improved uncoated publication paper by 40 Euro per tonne. “We see a substantially stronger demand for publication paper, “ says Ulf Edman Vice President Sales and Marketing Publication Paper. The new prices are valid for all deliveries from July 1 this year.
