Cascades Announces Official Opening of New State-of-the-Art Tissue Converting Plant

The fourth sheeting line at the UPM Kymi paper mill started full production at the end of October, strengthening UPM’s position on the market for graphic fine paper sheets. The new sheeting line, comprised of a folio sheeter, conveyors and a packaging line further expands the paper production area of the UPM Kymi integrated mill site. The new line was built in a space previously used as a warehouse, specifically converted for this purpose. The project was safely and successfully completed despite restrictions of Covid-19. Start-up took place on 24 September and performance tests have been conducted throughout October. The new line will produce coated and uncoated graphic fine paper sheets.

The Lenzing Group, a leading supplier of regenerated cellulose fibers for the textile and nonwovens industries, learned today that Lenzing's main shareholder B&C Group and the Brazilian pulp producer Suzano S/A have signed a long-term partnership in connection with the majority stake in Lenzing. As part of this agreement, Suzano S/A will take over a 15 percent stake in Lenzing AG from B&C Group. Suzano is the world's largest pulp producer based in Sao Paolo and recently achieved annual sales of more than EUR 7 billion. Lenzing's management welcomes the proposed transaction and looks forward working with another core shareholder.

Ahlstrom has successfully started the production of new, calendered, and embossed synthetic filter media for the first commercial orders from its Huyn-Poong plant in South Korea. The new materials offer extended filter lifetime and generate less flow restriction due to a higher available surface area. This makes these media a more sustainable alternative to competing materials. A longer filter lifetime combined with outstanding durability is a key feature helping to sustain filter operations and boost performance. This not only saves costs associated with frequent filter replacements but also reduces energy consumption and minimizes environmental impacts by lowering emissions. “The new calendering and embossing capabilities further advance synthetic filter media solutions. They improve durability and open a wide range of possibilities for extended performance, as well as improving the sustainability of filtration units.
