Canfor completes forest tenure transfer to McLeod Lake Indian Band and Tsay Keh Dene Nation

Canfor Corporation (TSX: CFP) announced today the completion of the subdivision and sale of its Forest License in the Mackenzie Timber Supply Area (TSA) equally to the McLeod Lake Indian Band and the Tsay Keh Dene Nation.

“Building on our long-standing relationships, Canfor is pleased to have reached this arrangement that will expand the Nations’ participation in the forest economy and stewardship of forest resources in the region,” said Stephen Mackie, Executive Vice President North American Operations. “We believe this agreement will support improved fibre access in the TSA and generate significant economic benefits for local and regional communities.”

Total proceeds from this tenure sale and the previously announced disposition of associated Mackenzie sawmill assets are $69 million.

Rottneros and Arctic Paper will invest in a fiber tray factory

The boards of Rottneros and Arctic Paper have decided to invest 15 million euro in a moulded fiber tray factory at Arctic Papers premises in Kostrzyn, Poland. The factory will be operated in a separate legal entity and as a 50/50 joint venture, in line with the LOI that was signed by the parties on October 22nd, 2021. “We are seeing a rapidly growing demand for moulded fiber trays, and we are pleased to announce that we are now ready to move forward with our plan to launch the first industrial scale production of high barrier fiber-based packaging. The collaboration of the two parties combines Arctic Papers favorable location and existing infrastructure with Rottneros technological know-how and will bring benefits to both companies”, said the CEOs of Rottneros and Arctic Paper, Lennart Eberleh and Michal Jarczyński, in a joint statement.

Clearwater Paper Announces Michael Urlick as New Consumer Products Leader

Clearwater Paper Corporation announced a key divisional executive appointment. Michael (Mike) Urlick has been named senior vice president and general manager of the consumer products division, effective January 1, 2022. Mr. Urlick succeeds Joanne Shufelt, who will be retiring from the company in 2022. “For the past eight years, Mike has been an integral part of the consumer products business and has developed a deep understanding of our tissue customers and our operations,” said Arsen Kitch, president and chief executive officer. “I look forward to Mike’s continued, valued contributions as a senior leader at Clearwater Paper.” Mr. Kitch continued, “I would like to thank Joanne for her many contributions during her more than nine years of leadership at Clearwater Paper.
