Canfor Calls on BC Government to Rethink Old Growth Deferral Process

Canfor Corporation (TSX:CFP) is issuing an open letter from Don Kayne, President and CEO, calling for an approach to the management of British Columbia’s old growth forests that is based on the facts of sound science and Indigenous traditional knowledge and a collaborative process that includes broad representation.

“We can choose a path that brings First Nations, labour leaders, forestry professionals and communities together to develop a sustainable old growth management plan that protects our forests and ensures sustainable employment for our communities. We are asking the Government of British Columbia to rethink the old growth deferral process,” said Don Kayne, President and CEO, Canfor. “Together, we can build on the 75% of old growth forests that are already protected or outside harvesting areas.”

APP Statement on the FSC Stakeholder Consultation Phase on the Draft Roadmap to End Disassociation

Asia Pulp & Paper Group (APP) welcomes FSC’s announcement of the start of stakeholders consultation phase on the draft roadmap to end disassociation. The stakeholders consultation is now being conducted after FSC and APP agreed on a draft Roadmap for Ending Disassociation which outlines the commitments that APP needs to fulfil before the FSC Board of Directors will consider ending its disassociation. The stakeholders consultation is opened from April 4th until May 31st 2016, and will consist of a series of informational webinars as well as regional consultations.

Domtar Sustainability for 2020 and Beyond

We achieved two of our six major goals: We reduced our total direct greenhouse gas emissions and indirect emissions from purchased energy by 19 percent at our pulp and paper mills, compared to our goal of a 15 percent reduction from 2010 levels. We also completed development of a water usage model for our mills to measure and more strategically manage the full cost of using water. In addition, we have nearly achieved two other Domtar sustainability goals that center on certified fiber procurement and employee engagement (as measured by establishing EarthChoice® Ambassador teams at each of our facilities). Finally, we are actively working toward achieving our final two Domtar sustainability goals — targeting a 0.50 recordable safety incident rate and ensuring a 40 percent reduction in waste to landfill from pulp and paper mills. click read more for more great info
