Last week, Advertisers Printing, a commercial shop in St. Louis, Missouri, celebrated an impressive milestone: 100 years in business.

Alex Fechner, the fourth generation of the family to be stepping into the business, noted that since 1923, the company has seen “one Great Depression, two world wars, a booming economy, two recessions and last but not least…. COVID. In other words, lots of ups downs and everything in between.”

Bill Fechner, the third generation and Alex’s father, noted at the event as the next generation begins to truly make its mark that, “There’s a saying that even a blind squirrel finds a nut eventually. After 44 and one-half years on the Advertisers’ team, my title has officially changed from CEO to blind squirrel.”

CherryRoad Media, which has been quietly acquiring newsrooms around the country, has purchased Gannett Co.’s printing operations in Hutchinson, Kansas. Gannett will still own The Hutchinson News, and that local paper will continue being printed at the Hutchinson plant. “We are pleased to have reached this agreement with CherryRoad Media,” says Doug Horne, chief financial officer at Gannett. “This transaction ensures we continue our mission of providing essential, trusted journalism to the community and that our experienced team at the Hutchinson facility will continue their good work, bringing local news to our audiences.”

Ennis, Inc. Acquires Assets of Gulf Business Forms

Ennis, Inc. announced its acquisition of certain assets including customer lists and intellectual property of Gulf Business Forms, in San Marcos, TX. Gulf Business Forms is a trade printer specializing in custom-printed documents including business forms, laser cut sheets, brochures, pamphlets, in-line glue booklets, and variable short-run solutions. Keith Walters, Chairman, President & CEO of the Company stated, “Gulf has been a strong competitor and leading brand throughout the country with customers spanning from California in the southwest to Massachusetts in the northeast. We are excited about adding the Gulf brand and their customers to the Ennis family.” Gulf Business Forms has been serving distributors from its operations in Texas for more than 50 years since its founding in 1968.
