Brent premium over WTI hits new 3-year high
The spread between Brent crude oil futures contracts and U.S. WTI stood at its widest for three years on Friday with the latter set for a second consecutive week of declines as U.S. oil output comes close to matching that of top producer Russia. The premium has doubled to more than $11 a barrel in about a month as a lack of pipeline capacity in the United States traps much of the output inland. U.S. crude production has been rising to record levels since late last year. ATA Truck Tonnage Index Decreased 0.8% in July
American Trucking Associations’ advanced seasonally adjusted (SA) For-Hire Truck Tonnage Index decreased 0.8% in July after falling 0.3% in June. In July, the index equaled 112.9 (2015=100) compared with 113.8 in June. June’s increase was revised lower from our July 18 press release. Compared with July 2022, the SA index fell 3%, which was the fifth straight year-over-year decrease. In June, the index was down 3.2% from a year earlier.
