Amcor and Berry Global shareholders overwhelmingly approve combination

This approval satisfies the shareholder vote condition for the combination, originally announced in November 2024.

Together, Amcor and Berry will be among the global leaders in consumer and healthcare packaging solutions with the combined material science and innovation capabilities required to revolutionize product development and better solve customers’ needs and consumers’ sustainability aspirations. These two highly complementary businesses are expected to grow faster together in attractive categories and opportunities to further refine the portfolio. With faster growth and $650 million of identified synergies, this combination is expected to drive significant near- and long-term value for all shareholders.

Mondi collaborates with Veyzle, WEPA and Soprema to make release liner production waste more circular

Mondi, a global leader in packaging and paper, has improved the circularity of material flows in two release liner production sites in Germany and the Netherlands. 95 % of the production waste is now used as secondary raw material for other industries, thanks to its strategic partnerships. By collaborating closely with industry stakeholders along the value chain, Mondi has tackled the siliconised and coated paper waste produced at its release liner plants in Jülich, Germany, and Heerlen, Netherlands. It is now repulped and valorised as secondary raw material in a range of other applications. Mondi Jülich and Mondi Heerlen kicked off a partnership with Veyzle, a Dutch specialist in the recycling of paper and plastics, and the Dutch site of the WEPA Group, an expert for sustainable hygiene papers, two years ago. Since then, Veyzle collects Mondi’s production waste from the two plants and sorts, shreds and bails the different papers before transporting them to WEPA. WEPA has developed an advanced repulping technology to valorise laminated and siliconised papers and uses them to create hygiene paper, such as toilet paper and paper towels. All three partners are located close together to keep transportation to a minimum.

MM Group to close PM3 at Kwidzyn mill in Poland

MM Kwidzyn has completed the consultation process with trade unions and works councils. The company has taken the decision on the closure of the packaging kraft paper machine (PM3). As a result of this decision, the production of packaging kraft paper IPACK ESSENTIAL, IPACK BROWN, IPACK ULTRA will be discontinued. The last production run on PM3 will take place early January 2024.

Aptar Food + Beverage’s SimpliCycle™ recyclable Valve was awarded the Best CSR/Sustainability Initiative at the World Food Innovation Awards ceremony held virtually on YouTube March 23. Entrants were judged on categories such as: innovation, functionality, design and product expression and represents excellence across every category of the global food industry. Composed of a low-density material, SimpliCycle™ allows the valve to float so it’s easily separated from the PET stream and ultimately recycled within the PP/PE olefin stream. According to Susan DeGroot, Director of Product Marketing, this award is one more reflection of Aptar’s commitment to using sustainable materials to create innovative solutions that help CPG brands achieve their goals, while enabling consumers to establish a deeper connection to their preferred brands.
