AF&PA Releases August 2024 Packaging Papers Monthly Report

Third Quarter 2020 Summary: *Reported sales increased 8%, including positive effects of currency translation rates and recent acquisitions, and core sales increased 2% *Strong reported and core growth in our Pharma segment *Core sales growth in the food, personal care and home care markets *Recent acquisitions are performing well *Reported earnings per share totaled $0.95 (an increase of 12% compared to the prior year) *Reported net income totaled $64 million (an increase of 12% compared to the prior year) *Cash flow from operations was $381 million in the first nine months of 2020 (a slight increase over the prior year)

Sonoco announced it is implementing a $50 per ton price increase for all grades of uncoated recycled paperboard (URB) in the United States and Canada, effective with shipments beginning July 2, 2018. Sonoco cited continuing inflation of input costs, especially freight and papermaking chemicals, and significantly longer backlogs at its mills as the drivers for this pricing action. Sonoco is one of the largest integrated manufacturers of uncoated recycled paperboard in the United States and Canada, producing more than one million tons annually from 11 mills.

Amcor has placed its first commercial order of certified-circular polymers leveraging ExxonMobil’s ExxtendTM technology for advanced recycling for use in packaging for the Australian and New Zealand market. The order will make Amcor the first flexible packaging company to offer certified-circular plastics in this market, which supports partial displacement of fossil-based feedstock and meets growing consumer demand for plastic circularity. Using its ExxtendTM technology, ExxonMobil offers certified-circular polymers with the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS certification that are identical to polymers made from conventional fossil feedstock. The certified-circular polymers can be used in existing applications, that otherwise require the use of virgin resins.
