Futureproof – innovative solutions for flexible packaging

Packaging paper manufacturer Sappi Europe offers the flexible packaging market’s most extensive portfolio of functional papers – with a focus on compelling alternatives to multi-layer material and plastic packaging. The company is further expanding its broad portfolio by adding new products such as Guard ICC, a flexible packaging paper for ice cream cones, Guard OHS a barrier and heat sealable paper for various food and non-food packaging applications and Guard Twist Gloss, a glossy, recyclable wax free barrier paper for twisting applications in the confectionary market. The new products will be presented at Sappi’s booth (Hall 4A, Stand 306) at this year’s FACHPACK (24. to 26. September) in Nuremberg, Europe’s central meeting place for the packaging industry and its users.

Huhtamaki to consolidate its production footprint in United Arab Emirates

Huhtamaki has decided to consolidate its three Flexible Packaging manufacturing sites in the United Arab Emirates, keeping one factory in Jebel Ali and expanding the one in Ras Al Khaimah. The transition will gradually take place during the second half of 2024. The aim of the consolidation is to optimize the manufacturing footprint, improve the competitiveness and strengthen the foundation for future growth in the region. The announced change is part of Huhtamaki’s program to accelerate strategy implementation published in November 2023 and expected to materially support the profitability of Huhtamaki with efficiency improvements leading to savings of approximately EUR 100 million over the next three years.  Planned consolidation does not represent a material share of the sales or profits of Huhtamaki. During the second quarter of 2024, Huhtamaki will book consolidation-related costs in total of approximately EUR 4 million. The costs will be booked as items affecting comparability. 

OX Industries Makes $5 Million Investment in High-speed Converting Technology

Ox Industries is increasing efficiency and production capacity with a $5 million investment in new high-speed converting lines across multiple facilities. This sophisticated technology will positively impact the productivity of Ox Industries’ vertically integrated tube and core and protective packaging plants and seamlessly merge with current operations and Ox-owned URB (uncoated recycled paperboard) mill network. Each converting line will have the most innovative automatic roll handling and finished product packaging technology to improve ergonomics, decrease on-the-job injuries, increase productivity, and enhance quality control. All lines will be fully operational in 12 months as Ox Industries strives to be the number one supplier of paper tubes and cores and green protective packaging.
