RafCycle™ by UPM Raflatac recycling service leads the way with DEKRA validated CO2 calculation method

UPM Raflatac has received a new certificate of validity from leading international assurance service provider, DEKRA, for its RafCycle™ recycling service. Going forward, this certification validates the credibility of the CO2 impact assessments provided by RafCycle in Europe and the US. As a result, customers can communicate their environmental contributions in the labeling value chain with increased assurance.

“With DEKRA validated CO2 calculation method, RafCycle partners now have access to credible information on the potential benefits of the RafCycle service.This information helps companies make informed decisions and convey their sustainability efforts to stakeholders”, states Juha Virmavirta, RafCycle Director, UPM Raflatac.

The global waste issue is significant, with the linear use of materials contributing to climate change. Stricter sustainability regulations and changing consumer preferences are driving the need for better waste management. Despite this, there is still room to improve label release liner recycling rates worldwide.

Mactac to Acquire Spinnaker Coating, LLC

Mactac®, a LINTEC Company, announces it has entered into an agreement to purchase the assets of Spinnaker Coating, LLC, representing $130 million of specialty revenue at a price of $40 million. The acquisition is expected to close on Feb. 1, 2022, and consists of Spinnaker’s manufacturing facility and headquarters based in Troy, Ohio, and North American distribution centers located in Atlanta, Georgia; Chicago, Illinois; Los Angeles, California; and, Vails Gate, New York. Mondi switches all glassine-based release liners to certified base paper

Mondi, a global leader in sustainable packaging and paper, has switched its entire portfolio of glassine-based release liners to certified base paper. The change is part of Mondi’s ongoing, proactive approach to sustainability, which includes developing solutions that are better for the environment. Glassine-based release liners are mainly used for labels, tapes, and medical applications.
