Guyana achieves PEFC endorsement

As of September, plastic straws will be replaced by sustainable and biodegradable paper alternatives in all McDonald’s UK and Ireland restaurants. The restaurant chain uses 1.8 million straws a day in the UK. The decision follows a successful trial in a number of McDonald’s UK restaurants to test how customers react to the switch to paper straws. FSC US released a new campaign – One Simple Action – supported by some of the world’s largest consumer-facing companies, such as Kimberly-Clark. This is the first time that global companies work together to promote FSC in the US. HP Inc., International Paper, McDonald’s, Procter and Gamble, and Williams-Sonoma Inc. joined Kimberly-Clark to partner with FSC and WWF, with a goal of showing consumers how One Simple Action - buying FSC-certified products - can help take care of forests for future generations.

The Innovation Centre for biomaterials will host research, application, business development and strategic marketing under one roof. By creating renewable solutions and products from second-generation biomass, such as wood, in order to replace fossil-based products, the centre is addressing societal problems such as climate change, increased urbanisation as well as water and land use issues. “The Innovation Centre in Stockholm is another important step on the road to Stora Enso’s transformation into a renewable materials company.
