Tetra Pak unveils new ‘Factory Sustainable Solutions’ approach to help reduce energy and water consumption

A new offer within Tetra Pak’s broader sustainability portfolio, the ‘Factory Sustainable Solutions’ business offers Food and Beverage (F&B) producers a tailored blend of state-of-the-art technologies and leading plant integration capabilities. It seeks to support F&B producers in optimising energy and resource consumption, an important step in helping customers meet their sustainability ambitions and reduce operational costs.

Traditionally reliant on fossil fuels and energy-intensive processes,1 F&B producers are under increasing pressure to optimise resources and increase energy generation from renewable sources. This comes amidst rising operational expenses, including the cost of raw materials, as well as new CO2 taxes and fees for wasted water. Finding solutions to these challenges will be key, with businesses looking to their supply chains and manufacturing processes to help achieve cost savings2.

The application period to join the technical working group for the revision of requirements for Forest Stewardship Standards is closing soon on 24 May 2022. The revision of four normative documents regulating the requirements for development and maintenance of Forest Stewardship Standards (FSS) is starting in July 2022 and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2024. Forest trips introduce the multipurpose use of forests to sixth grade students

This August and September, UPM will be organizing forest trips for 6th grade primary school students in five different Finnish cities, where UPM’s mills are located. The trips will take place if the COVID-19 situation allows it. This is the fourth time that UPM has organized such excursions. The aim is to provide pupils with a positive forest experience and increase knowledge of how Finnish forests are used. During the excursions, which are called “Commercial forest — Development and Sustainable Use,” pupils will learn about the commercial and recreational use of forests, wildlife management and wood-based products. In addition, every pupil gets a chance to plant a seedling that will become a part of a forest. With 40 classes taking part, there will be roughly 800 pupils and teachers in total taking part during these excursions. Due to the COVID-19 situation, the number of classes is smaller than before. Despite the exceptional circumstances, the forest excursions will provide a safe experience for pupils: sp ecial arrangements have been made for the excursions, e.g. taking into account safety distances and hygiene.
