Introducing: FSC EUDR Aligned Early Adopter Programme

Are you an FSC certificate holder and need to comply with the upcoming EU Regulation on Deforestation-free Products (EUDR)? You might qualify to become an early adopter of FSC EUDR Aligned.

Since the EUDR came into force in June 2023, FSC has been dedicated to strengthening its system and developing new technologies to support our certificate holders to meet these requirements. FSC EUDR Aligned will provide a set of integrated tools to tens of thousands of companies – at different points along the value chain and with vastly different needs – to help meet EUDR legality, sustainability, and due diligence obligations.

We are ready to onboard a select number of companies to start testing our solutions.

The FSC EUDR Aligned Early Adopter Programme will invite the selected companies to implement this suite of solutions – starting with the FSC Regulatory Module – so we can scrutinize how they function in real supply chains. At the same time, trusted companies will have the chance to test-drive the innovations to help make complex supply chains deforestation-free ahead of EUDR enforcement in December 2024.

Newsprint Recycled Content Continues to Beat Voluntary Targets

Average recycled content of newspapers in 2015 was 71 per cent - ahead of the voluntary target agreed between newspaper publishers and the Government, according to a report compiled by independent auditors for the Newspaper Industry Materials Committee. Newspaper industry body NIMC provides a forum for the discussion of matters of mutual interest with regard to production materials used in newspaper publishing. On a biannual basis, publishers commission an audit to establish whether recycling targets are being achieved. The auditors comment that the results have been affected “fairly dramatically” by a singular event, namely the closure of Aylesford Newsprint in the early months of 2015 and the resulting loss of some major domestic recycled newsprint capacity.

Two Sides European Campaign Update: 2023 Results

Our commitment to championing the environmental merits of print, paper, and paper-based packaging remains steadfast. The Love Paper campaign, focussed on improving consumer perceptions of our products, reached a milestone in 2023 with over 2,000 advertisements featured in national newspapers and magazines. This initiative reaches more than 240 million consumers, communicating the sustainable story of magazines, newspapers, and all paper-based products. We are reaching more consumers every year. Across Europe, the problem of Greenwashing continues, with companies making misleading messages that portray digital communications as better for the environment. Slogans like “Go green, go paperless” not only misguide, but pose a significant threat to our industry. Two Sides actively engages businesses, brands, and organisations, urging them to refrain from making such deceptive statements regarding print and paper.
