GreenFirst Announces Completion of Operational Decentralization and New Paper Mill CEO

GreenFirst Forest Products Inc. (TSX: GFP) (“GreenFirst”) is pleased to announce that it has successfully completed the previously announced decentralization of its lumber mill and paper mill operations. In connection with the decentralization, Terry Skiffington has been engaged as Chief Executive Officer of the paper mill division. Mr. Skiffington is a skilled executive with a broad range of experience in the pulp and paper sector in Canada and globally.

The strategic decision to decentralize the businesses and management is expected to improve the ability to focus on the unique aspects of each business, provide for more efficient decision-making processes and to allow for increased entrepreneurialism and cost-control measures.

Harvesting for Metsä Group’s bioproduct mill begins

Harvesting wood for the needs of the bioproduct mill in Äänekoski started today, on 11 August 2017. Until now, wood has been delivered to the old pulp mill and for the test runs of the new mill. The bioproduct mill start-up will begin in mid-August 2017. Buying woodfor the bioproduct mill began already in 2016. Direct harvesting begins today with thinning in the forest of Metsä Group’s owner-member Timo Akselin in Uurainen, Central Finland. The harvesting at the stand was carried out by the Saarijärvi-based Forest-Linna Oy, and the transportation was taken care of by Kuljetus H & H Heinonen Oy, based in Multia. “The start-up of the bioproduct mill is drawing closer, and we can now start increasing the harvesting volumes,” says Juha Mäntylä, EVP, Wood Supply, Metsä Group. Jari Voutilainen appointed Metsä Group’s SVP, Sourcing and Logistics

Jari Voutilainen has been appointed Metsä Group's Senior Vice President, Sourcing and Logistics as of October 1, 2021. He reports to President and CEO Ilkka Hämälä. Voutilainen has worked at Metsä Group since 2013. He moves to his new role from the position of Metsä Group's SVP, Corporate Affairs. Prior to that, he served as SVP, Logistics. Jarmo Toikka, who has been responsible for Metsä Group's sourcing since 2009 and also for logistics since 2018, has been appointed SVP, Business Process Development. In his new role, he reports to Metsä Group’s EVP, Strategy Sari Pajari-Sederholm.

Holmen Reports Year End 2020 Results

* Excluding items affecting comparability 2019.-Operating profit for 2020 was SEK 2 479 million (2019: SEK 2 345 million excluding items affecting comparability of SEK 8 770 million). Lower production costs in Paperboard and higher wood product prices had a positive impact on earnings, though this effect was offset by price decreases and production curtailments in Paper. -Compared with the third quarter, operating profit decreased by SEK 119 million to SEK 595 million as a result of a maintenance shutdown in Paperboard. -Profit after tax in 2020 was SEK 1 979 million (8 731), which corresponds to earnings per share of SEK 12.2 (52.6). Profit after tax for the previous year was impacted by items affecting comparability of SEK 6 943 million.
