Nike Accused of Greenwashing in New Lawsuit (mediapost.com)

A Nike customer is accusing the brand of greenwashing. In a complaint filed May 10 at the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, plaintiff Maria Guadalupe Ellis claimed that Nike uses “deceptive and misleading” statements when marketing its sustainability collection. Specifically, the suit claims that Nike “deceives consumers into believing that they’re receiving products that are sustainable, made with recycled fibers,” and can reduce carbon one’s footprint in a move to “zero carbon and zero waste.”

“[The plaintiff] would not have purchased the products if she had known that they were not sustainable, not made from sustainable materials and not environmentally friendly,” the suit read.

Ellis, who is asking the lawsuit to be certified as a federal and state class action, also said that of the 2,452 products Nike lists in its sustainability collection, “only 239 products are actually made with any recycled materials.”

PRC Fiscal Year 2024 Budget Justification

The Commission released its Fiscal Year 2024 Budget Justification submitted earlier to the Postal Service Board of Governors in accordance with Title 39, United States Code, Section 205. Last week, the Commission submitted a revised budget request of $22.613 million for FY 2024 to the Postal Service Governors. The Commission submitted this revised request in response to correspondence and discussions with the Governors regarding the initial budget request of $23.399 million. The initial request sought to fund increases to fixed costs, including inflationary adjustments to wages and benefits, lease payments, and the addition of 5 full-time equivalent employees. The revised request only covers increases to the Commission’s fixed costs for FY 2024 and does not fund increased capacity in FY 2024.

Online spending patterns shift in July

According to the latest Signifyd E-commerce Pulse data for July 2024, online spending continued the growth trend seen in June, but shifted toward lower-cost items and alternatives as the fastest year-over-year growth (17.7%) was in orders under $100. Meanwhile, purchases above $500 were nearly flat with 1.5% year-over-year growth. Overall online spending was up 10% year-over-year, and the number of e-commerce orders increased 15% but average order value was down 4% compared to July 2023, which Signifyd said signals caution among consumers.
