Paper Excellence Wins BC Cleantech Award

Paper Excellence Canada is thrilled to announce today that it has been awarded the Corporate Pioneer of the Year Award at the annual Foresight Canada BC Cleantech Awards. The award was announced during an event in Vancouver on Thursday evening. Foresight Canada’s BC Cleantech Awards are an annual event to recognize inspiring change-makers from across British Columbia that are leading the charge to a net-zero economy.

The Corporate Pioneer of the Year Award recognizes a large organization or company adopting, championing or leading sustainable practices in their industry. Paper Excellence was honoured to be nominated alongside other great companies, including Copper Mountain Mining Corp., Shell, FortisBC, and the Port of Vancouver.

“We are very proud to be recognized for efforts we started decades ago when we made a bet and took early action on decarbonization,” said Graham Kissack, Vice President Environmental, Health and Safety, and Corporate Communications for Paper Excellence Canada. “As an organization we have reduced our carbon emissions by 66% since 1990 through fuel switching and dramatic improvements in energy efficiency. And that’s brought us to today where our energy mix is 85% renewable. We are not stopping as we look to continue to partner with BC’s Innovators to help us get to net-zero and even perhaps net-negative emissions.”

KP Tissue Releases Second Quarter 2021 Financial Results

KPLP Q2 2021 Business and Financial Highlights • Revenue decreased by $47.5 million or 12.3% to $339.3 million in Q2 2021 compared to $386.8 million in Q2 2020. • Adjusted EBITDA was $37.3 million in Q2 2021 compared to $64.4 million in Q2 2020, a decrease of 42.1%, and similar sequentially to the $37.5 million in Q1 2021. • TAD Sherbrooke continues to run above the expected start-up curve. • Completed financing for the Sherbrooke Expansion Project. • Declared a quarterly dividend of $0.18 per share to be paid on October 15, 2021.

Negotiated outcome reached in the collective labour agreement negotiations at UPM Biofuels

UPM Biofuels and the Paper Workers' Union have reached a negotiation outcome in the collective labour agreement negotiations concerning UPM Biofuels' Lappeenranta biorefinery. "The negotiations were conducted in a very good spirit, and we were able to focus on the essential issues right from the beginning. The content of the negotiation outcome creates a good basis for flexible operation and development of the refinery," says Petri Rekonen, Director of UPM Biofuels' Lappeenranta biorefinery. The new collective labour agreement will have a two-year contract period and it will enter into force upon approval by the Paper Workers’ Union’s Board. The union has announced that the Board will discuss the negotiation outcome at its meeting on 5 June 2024. Negotiations on the collective labour agreements for UPM Specialty Papers and UPM Raflatac will continue.
