U.K. Recycle Week 2022: A Celebration of Recycling

WRAP, a climate action NGO based in the U.K., is organizing Recycle Week from October 17-23 to celebrate consumer recycling of everyday goods across the U.K. The annual event encourages retailers, brand owners, waste management companies, trade associations, governments and the media to come together to achieve a common goal: “to galvanize the public into recycling more of the right things, more often.”

In 2021, the campaign achieved over 29 million digital impressions, with 82% of people commenting that they changed their behavior after seeing Recycle Week 2021 content. For 2022, the campaign’s theme is called ‘Let’s Get Real,’ and its objective is to debunk myths surrounding recycling, challenge perceptions and improve behavior.

Novolex Releases Fifth Annual Sustainability Report

The report, written in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative, details advancements on a number of important fronts. They include: *Setting a time-bound, numerical target to double the volume of post-consumer recycled (PCR) polyethylene film recycled at its North Vernon, Ind., recycling facility by the end of 2024. *Reporting the company’s “waste footprint” for the first time. In 2022 Novolex implemented a waste-to-landfill measurement program to enable monitoring and reduction of various waste streams from operations. *Increasing the company’s use of Chain-of-Custody certified fiber. *Expanding the use of materials that reflect emerging technologies and customer needs. *Creating a DEI Council comprised of Novolex leaders who guide and support our DEI strategies and objectives.

Mixed bale processor adds facility in western Canada

Driven by demand for polypropylene and polyethylene, plastics recycler EFS-plastics is opening a processing site in Lethbridge, Alberta. The 70,000-square-foot facility will increase EFS’s processing capacity by 10,000 metric tons per year, a 20% jump, a press release said. Beginning in the first week of April, EFS will accept bales of plastics Nos. 3-7 and 1-7 from materials recovery facilities (MRFs) in the western United States and Canada, building on “the strong relationships that EFS has developed with [w]estern MRFs since the Chinese National Sword Policy limited export of residential plastics in 2018,” the press release said.
