Paper Excellence Enters Agreement to Acquire Resolute Forest Products

The Paper Excellence Group, Domtar’s owner, announced today it has entered an agreement to purchase Resolute Forest Products through Domtar. Under the agreement, Domtar will acquire all outstanding shares of Resolute common stock. The transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2023.

With this addition to its family of companies, the Paper Excellence Group will further build out its forest products portfolio in North America following the successful acquisition of Domtar last year. Resolute will be a wholly owned subsidiary of Domtar, under the auspices of the Paper Excellence Group. Domtar and Resolute will continue to operate independently under their own names.

“This acquisition strengthens the Paper Excellence Group’s core pulp and paper businesses and diversifies their product offering by adding tissue and wood product segments,” said Domtar President and CEO John D. Williams.

We do not anticipate any immediate changes to Domtar’s operations. We remain focused on operating safely and sustainably in our communities and serving our customers without interruption.

The transaction is subject to Resolute shareholder approval, as well as applicable regulatory approvals and satisfaction of other customary closing conditions.

Kimberly-Clark to Expand Production at its North Carolina Nonwovens Plant

Kimberly-Clark Corporation has approved $30 million for expansion and improvements to its nonwovens manufacturing facility in Hendersonville, North Carolina. Outcome reached in the collective labour agreement negotiations at UPM Raflatac

UPM Raflatac and the Paper Workers' Union have reached an outcome in the collective labour agreement negotiations concerning UPM Raflatac’s Tampere factory in Finland. "The negotiations were conducted in a very good spirit and constructively from start to finish. I would like to thank the Paper Workers’ Union for its solution-oriented approach and for the good negotiations. The solution will enable the long-term development of the Tampere factory," says Antti Waajakoski, General Manager of UPM Raflatac’s Tampere factory. The new collective agreement will have a two-year contract period and it will enter into force upon approval by the Paper Workers’ Union’s Board. The union has announced that the Board will discuss the negotiation outcome at its meeting on 5 June 2024. Negotiations on the collective labour agreement for UPM Specialty Papers will continue.
