Greif, Inc. Joins the Alliance to End Plastic Waste

Greif, Inc. (NYSE: GEF, GEF.B), a global leader in industrial packaging products and services, announced today it has joined the Alliance to End Plastic Waste (Alliance), a global non-profit organization consisting of over 50 companies committed to ending plastic waste in the environment and protecting the planet.

“As a leader in industrial packaging, we recognize the responsibility we have to reduce the environmental impact of our products and operations and contribute towards a more circular economy,” said Ole Rosgaard, Greif’s Chief Operating Officer. “We are excited to join other like-minded companies as a member of the Alliance. The Alliance consists of member companies and supporters representing companies and organizations from across the plastic value chain. They partner with government, environmental and non-governmental organizations around the world to address the challenge of ending plastic waste in the environment. Through programs and partnerships, the Alliance focuses on solutions in four strategic areas: infrastructure, innovation, education and engagement, as well as environmental clean-up.

FSC disassociates from BILT

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) has announced that it will disassociate from Ballarpur Industries Limited (BILT) and the subsidiary company Sabah Forest Industries (SFI). This decision comes after a lengthy review process of the conclusions by an independent complaints panel that conducted a thorough investigation into the complaint filed by Building and Wood Workers International (BWI) in March 2015. The complaint alleged that SFI refused to uphold the International Labour Organization’s (ILO) Core Conventions on Freedom of Association (Convention No. 87) and Collective Bargaining (Convention No. 98).

2018 SFI Conservation and Community Partnerships Grant Program RFP

The Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) opened its annual request for proposals (RFP) for the SFI Conservation and Community Partnerships Grant Program today. Applications for the program will be accepted from eligible entities through October 9. Requirements for this year's program are available on the SFI website. The grants program supports SFI's work to promote sustainable forest management through partnerships with conservation groups and academic partners that are contributing to the understanding of critical conservation outcomes across the range of American and Canadian forests, and community groups working at the intersection of sustainable forestry, responsible procurement and thriving communities. SFI Conservation Grants focus on the connection between sustainable supply chains and the natural resource values we care about like water quality, biodiversity, species at risk, carbon sequestration and resiliency to climate change.
