AptarGroup Releases Corporate Sustainability Report

AptarGroup, Inc. (NYSE: ATR), a global dispensing solutions provider, today released its 2014 Corporate Sustainability Report. The report highlights activities that took place across the company’s global portfolio throughout 2014 and is the first prepared by AptarGroup using the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) G4 framework. This report includes information about global energy consumption for which AptarGroup has obtained external assurance regarding the reliability of the data.

AptarGroup strives for solutions respecting the environment and conserving natural resources. Featured in the report are examples of the work AptarGroup has done to reduce waste to landfill; test and evaluate new, more efficient equipment; and institute new processes and procedures to reduce energy and water use.

Outside Voice: Kerry Cesareo on Responsible Forest Management

Kerry Cesareo, senior vice president for forests, leads a portfolio of strategic forest management initiatives in pursuit of World Wildlife Fund’s goal to conserve the world’s most important forests, including the rainforests in the Amazon, which have drawn public attention because of widespread fires. (Note to readers: Domtar uses only wood harvested from managed forests in North America. We do not procure any wood from Brazil.) World Wildlife Fund (WWF) initiatives include using an innovative financial model to ensure protected forest areas are properly managed, and combining policy and market-based interventions to address unsustainable agricultural expansion, logging and infrastructure development in key landscapes. Cesareo previously led WWF’s forest markets work, launching the North American arm of the Global Forest & Trade Network (GFTN) and forging partnerships with Fortune 500 companies on environmentally responsible supply chains for wood and paper products. Stora Enso comments on environmental incident in Hukkajoki, Finland

On Thursday 15 August, an environmental incident was discovered at a Stora Enso harvesting site in Kainuu, Finland, and the incident is being investigated as an aggravated nature conservation offence. Forestry machinery has crossed a river where there is a population of the highly endangered freshwater pearl mussel. Stora Enso takes the matter extremely seriously. The authorities and the company have strict responsibility requirements and comprehensive guidelines for the consideration of freshwater pearl mussel in harvesting operations. Stora Enso is cooperating with the police and other authorities to find out what happened at Hukkajoki. As a result of this and our own investigation, our guidelines and procedures will be refined to ensure that everyone involved in harvesting in valuable natural areas is aware of them in the future. This applies both to Stora Enso employees and to our partners, such as contractors and forest owners.
