Indian Trees outside Forests national standard submitted for endorsement

The Network for Certification and Conservation of Forests (NCCF) submitted their national Trees outside Forests certification standard to PEFC for endorsement in January 2020. The public consultation, which is your chance to give your feedback on this national standard, will run from 31 March until 30 May.

This is the first time NCCF, the PEFC national member for India, has applied for PEFC endorsement of its NCCF Trees outside Forests Certification Standard.

Trees outside Forests (TOF) certification was one of the innovative developments of the 2018 PEFC Sustainable Forest Management standard.

After developing the national standard in line with PEFC requirements, NCCF submitted it to PEFC for endorsement. The standard is now undergoing the PEFC assessment process, carried out by an independent PEFC Registered Assessor. It must pass this process and be approved by the PEFC General Assembly before it can achieve endorsement.

An important aspect of the assessment process is the public consultation. Over the sixty-day consultation, stakeholders from around the world can give their comments and provide feedback on any aspect of the standard. The Registered Assessor will use the information received from this consultation in their assessment of the standard.

APP leads adoption of global sustainability reporting standards in Indonesia

Asia Pulp & Paper (APP), part of Sinarmas, received the Special Commendation for Early Adopted GRI Standards at the Sustainability Reporting Awards (SRA) in Solo, Indonesia. This is the fifth award that APP received from the SRA and recognizes APP as a trailblazer in the adoption of the newest GRI Standards for its sustainability reporting in the country. Issued by the independent standards organization Global Reporting Initiative in early 2017 to replace the earlier version “G4 Guidelines”, the GRI Standards is the world’s first standardized sustainability reporting structure to be applied globally. The organization recommended early adoption of the latest GRI Standards, which otherwise would be officially effective from 1 July 2018. United Nations Recognizes UPM as one of 34 Global Compact LEAD Companies Demonstrating World-Class Commitment to Corporate Sustainability

UPM has been recognized as a Global Compact LEAD company for its strong engagement to the United Nations Global Compact, the world's largest corporate sustainability initiative. The recognition was addressed to only 34 global companies at the Global Compact Leaders Summit in New York on 24 September 2018. "LEAD companies represent the highest level of engagement with the UN Global Compact," says Lise Kingo, CEO and Executive Director of the UN Global Compact. "Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and creating the world we want will not happen without bold actions from the responsible business community," Kingo says.
