HP Inc. announced the HP One Package workflow suite for PageWIde Industrial corrugated presses, the industry’s first ecosystem for digital corrugated printing. HP One Package offers software and solutions from HP and partners to help converters maximize the flexibility of digital production. HP One Package workflow streamlines submission and preparation of orders, allowing converters to take advantage of an array of digital value-added possibilities, including solutions for brands’ consumer engagement and piracy protection using variable data, imagery and unique ID serialization. Amazon is tackling packaging sustainability at scale with several artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. In a corporate blog post, Amazon described how it is using machine learning (ML) approaches and a combination of natural language processing and computer vision to determine how to use the right amount of packaging for the hundreds of millions of products it ships. According to Amazon, these tools have helped it reduce per-shipment packaging weight by 36% and eliminating more than a million tons of packaging, equivalent to more than 2 billion shipping boxes, over the past six years. To make a prediction about whether a given product could be safely shipped in a particular package type, Amazon built an ML model based largely on text-based data from online product listings such as item name, description, price, and package dimensions.

Diversified Labeling Solutions, a national converter of pressure-sensitive labels, has expanded its RFID label business with the addition of a new Mark Andy flexographic press with an inline Tamarack RFID inserter. As a leading national label supplier, DLS has seen significant growth in the demand for RFID labels. To continue to meet customer demand, and bring RFID label conversion inhouse, DLS has installed a new 13” 4-color Mark Andy 2200 flexographic press with three die cutters, a perforation station and an inline Tamarack P500 RFID module. The new equipment is installed in DLS’ Itasca, IL facility and adds to DLS’s already significant production portfolio. With five nationwide locations, DLS maintains a fleet of over 50 presses including flexographic, UV digital, HP Indigo and hybrid printing equipment.
