The United States Postal Service (USPS) has announced a proposal for new postage rates set to take effect in early 2025, citing the need to stay competitive and increase revenue. If approved, the change would raise Shipping Services prices by approximately 3.2 percent for Priority Mail service and Priority Mail Express service, 3.9 percent for USPS Ground Advantage, and 9.2 percent for Parcel Select, according to the announcement on the service's website. The proposed pricing action is part of "Delivering for America," the agency's 10-year plan for "achieving financial sustainability and service excellence."

Postmaster General Louis DeJoy issued the following statement on July 27, 2020: “The Postal Service is in a financially unsustainable position, stemming from substantial declines in mail volume, and a broken business model. We are currently unable to balance our costs with available funding sources to fulfill both our universal service mission and other legal obligations. Because of this, the Postal Service has experienced over a decade of financial losses, with no end in sight, and we face an impending liquidity crisis. Congress and the Postal Regulatory Commission must enact legislative and regulatory reforms to help address the situation. At the same time, it is imperative for the Postal Service to operate efficiently and effectively.
