TAPPI has named Steve Voorhees, chief executive officer of WestRock, as the TAPPI/PIMA Executive of the Year.
WestRock, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, is a global provider of differentiated paper and packaging solutions.
The TAPPI/PIMA Executive of the Year award was originally scheduled for presentation at TAPPI’s April PaperCon 2020 in Atlanta but was delayed due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
A virtual awards ceremony for all TAPPI association-level honourees, including the PIMA Executive of the Year, was held June 23.
“Since taking the helm at WestRock in 2015, Steve has expertly managed its electrifying growth, helping WestRock more efficiently and economically serve customers,” says Larry N. Montague, TAPPI president and CEO, in a statement.
“And, because of our technical, scientific and education focus, we are also especially pleased with Steve’s prioritization of employee development and continuing education. He is a champion of WestRock’s R&D efforts to find new and innovative ways to make paper packaging a sustainable alternative.”
Prior to his current role, Voorhees was CEO of RockTenn and also served in various executive leadership roles, including president and chief operating officer, executive vice president and chief financial officer, and chief administrative officer.
His previous experience includes his work in operations and executive roles at Sonat Inc., a diversified energy company headquartered in Birmingham, Ala.
Voorhees is a member of the board of directors of Truist Financial Corporation, the National Association of Manufacturers, 3DE, the American Forest & Paper Association, the Paper and Packaging Board and WestRock.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics and mathematics from Northwestern University and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Virginia Darden School of Business.
“I’m honoured to be recognized today alongside so many great leaders from across our industry,” says Voorhees.
The 2021 awards are scheduled for presentation at TAPPICon, taking place April 25-28, 2021, in Atlanta.
