Interfor Resumes Operations at Grand Forks Sawmill

INTERFOR CORPORATION (“Interfor” or the “Company”) (TSX: IFP) announced today that it has resumed operations at its sawmill in Grand Forks, BC following severe flooding in the area over the past two weeks.

The sawmill was temporarily curtailed on May 10, 2018 as a precautionary measure due to the escalating flooding in the region. Even though the sawmill was not operating during this time, a series of measures were taken by mill personnel to protect the operation against potential damage. Fortunately, such actions limited the risk to the mill’s infrastructure and equipment and has allowed the mill to resume operations now that the water level has receded. There are ongoing issues in the region related to rail line damage and the Company will be working with its carriers and customers to manage through the related logistics issues.

Based on the unique integration into paper making, extrusion coating and siliconizing, Felix Schoeller Release Liners have become a benchmark in the self-adhesive graphics, tape, and industrial markets. The planned investment in North America is not only a geographic expansion but will also add new capabilities: The new operation is designed to coat both solventless and solvent based silicone systems to best meet the requirements of current and future customers. The new operation is expected to be operational by 2023.

Paper Excellence announces a $13 million upgrade plan for Port Alberni

The owners of a Port Alberni paper mill say a major new investment in the facility reflects confidence in British Columbia’s forestry sector. Paper Excellence says it will spend $13 million to upgrade the mid-Island mill as it prepares to produce food-grade papers used by restaurants and food preparation companies. The company says the investment will remove production bottlenecks and upgrade a pair of paper machines at the facility. "With help from the leadership of B.C.’s government, we are very excited to invest in a winning project like this at Port Alberni," said Patrick Corriveau with Paper Excellence. "With the mill’s best-in-class papermakers and the ability to make even more of these new food grades, we’re confident in the Port Alberni mill’s secure and long-term future."
