Kathy Lafferty Joins Allen Press as Local Sales Executive

Allen Press, Inc. is pleased to announce the addition of Kathy Lafferty to our local sales team. Lafferty joins Allen Press with over 33 years of experience in print publishing, advertising sales and marketing.

In her role as Sales Executive, Lafferty will leverage her vast experience and industry knowledge to grow Allen Press’s digital printing, direct mail and marketing services in Lawrence and surrounding areas.

“Kathy is an excellent addition to our sales team as she has immense business knowledge with magazines, niche publications, newspapers and integrated marketing,” said Maria Preston-Cargill, Allen Press Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “She has been a leader in the Lawrence and Topeka communities for over 30 years and will be an important asset as Allen Press expands its local presence.”

Lafferty started her career in print media as an Account Executive at the Topeka Capital-Journal in 1985. After more than 19 years, she joined The World Company and worked in multiple advertising sales roles including Advertising Sales Manager and Sunflower Publishing’s Senior Account Executive. More recently, she has been the Magazine Director for the Emporia Gazette and Senior Account Executive for MetroMedia Publishers.

“Throughout my career, I’ve been passionate about utilizing the power of print and creative advertising to solve business problems and exceed sales objectives,” said Lafferty. “This opportunity allows me to continue to help local businesses in this manner while growing a company that’s been a staple of the Lawrence community for many years.”

Kathy earned a B.A. in Journalism from Kansas State University. In her free time, she enjoys gardening, art and dancing to live country music.

GLGA Announces Recipients of Fourth Annual Women in Print Excellence Award

The Great Lakes Graphics Association (GLGA) is proud to announce the recipients of its fourth annual Women in Print Excellence Award. The Women in Print Excellence Awards supports GLGA’s ongoing quest to recognize the contributions of women in the Midwest print, graphic arts, finishing and print packaging community as well as those women who support the print industry in a vendor or supplier capacity. Any woman working directly in print or in a vendor role supporting print who was in good standing with her company in Illinois, Indiana or Wisconsin was eligible to be nominated. The nominations were reviewed by a panel of female print professionals outside of the Midwest, who selected one recipient per state.

Transcontinental Inc. announces its financial results for the third quarter of Fiscal 2017

Revenues went from $467.8 million in the third quarter of 2016 to $477.7 million in the third quarter of 2017, an increase of 2.1%. This increase is attributable to the contribution from the acquisitions in the packaging division, as well as the favourable exchange rate effect and the organic growth in revenues for the Printing and Packaging Sector. Organic growth in revenues is attributable to higher volume in the packaging division and higher demand for all services to Canadian retailers, namely for flyer and in-store marketing printing services, as well as for premedia and door-to-door distribution services, notably under the terms of the expanded agreement with Lowe's Canada, partially offset by the decline in revenues from the other printing division verticals. Net earnings increased by $3.1 million, from $45.9 million in the third quarter of 2016 to $49.0 million in the third quarter of 2017. This increase is mostly attributable to the increase in operating earnings, partially offset by the increase in net financial expenses. On a per share basis, net earnings went from $0.59 to $0.64. Excluding restructuring and other costs (revenues) and impairment of assets, net of related income taxes, adjusted net earnings increased by $6.0 million, or 13.6%, from $44.1 million in the third quarter of 2016 to $50.1 million in the third quarter of 2017. On a per share basis, adjusted net earnings went from $0.57 to $0.65.
